For what it's worth, I too have noticed that the new Facebook update is a serious parasite feeding on my battery. Until the bug is fixed, there is a solution and that is simply to revert back to the old App by uninstalling the latest update.
- Open "Market"
- Press hard menu key, then, "Downloads"
- Scroll to Facebook, and select.
- On the App page, select, "Uninstall updates". The phone will say, "Facebook will be removed from this phone" ... Select, "Ok". (Facebook app will not be fully removed. This only uninstalls the buggy update.)
- Now, open your Facebook app again, and re-enter your email address and password, and select your sync options. Make sure to UNCHECK, "Update Automatically", or you'll wind up with the buggy version again.
Good to go until the bug is fixed. I hope this helps.
