Battery is horrible....

mine is terrible. 4 hours (1 hour of music w/ screen off web browsing for ~15 minutes total email for ~15-20 mins and a whole lot of standby time and im at 60 % already... i cant even get through a work day on standby. I run like 2 widgets.. but there are a retarded number of services on this phone that are always running... if i cant sort this out im tossing it and going back to sprint.

Reboot and see if you're still at 60%. I can easily make it through a day of moderate use.

If you read the literature the phone came with it says to ensure your phone is fully charged prior to using it. When I got the phone I didnt bother turning it on, I just plugged it in the charger for 2 hours. On the first day I usually allow it to go completely dead before charging it again. Next, I went to battery settings and made sure it was on smart mode (found in battery manager). I also customized battery options to reflect off peak times to reflect when i am in work and and not really using data. I then proceeded to lower the screen brgihtness but not by much (whats the point of having a nice screen) id say its a little more then half way up probably 65%. I dont use task killers at all and I run 3 widgets. My phone keeps the charge for at least 27 hours.

My Average daily use: 12-15 calls a day for an average use of 2-3 hours
Texting: roughly 20 a day
Data: Between twitter,facebook I do about 2 hours worth daily. At the gym i do about 1 hour of iheart radio and pandora.

I use my phone about the same amount minus twitter and facebook. If I could get 27 hours I would be thrilled. I lowered the screen brightness also. I don't know what you mean about using 3 widgets? Could you explain that. I use the off peak times as well. Verizon made me change so many setting, don't know what I am doing.

I had the same issue with the Incredible. I finally disharged the battery until the the phone shut down ten recharged it ovenight, Repeated it again the next day and my battery life was doubled.

I havent had time to do this with my droid x as I have only had it for two days and cant turn it off as my work requirements wont allow it till next week, but, the droid x battery is much better than the incredible, so I hope that when I get a chance to repeat the discharge and charge of the battery with this phone it will improve even more.

I am a heavy bluetooth ear piece user and will normally switch to my back up earpiece around 2pm, so far the X has kept up

I was getting flat out awful battery life too (like five hours, with four of those hours being on stand-by). I went into the verizon store today to figure out what was draining the battery. I had the screen brightness set on the lowest setting, I had installed the update, and I had uninstalled ATK (I don't think you need it, and uninstalling it actually improved my battery life).

Turns out what was secretly draining all of my battery life was the social applications constantly syncing. Go to settings> Data Manager > Data Delivery > Social Applications and make sure that sync over WiFi only is checked.

My phone has been unplugged for 12 hours and the battery bar is still displaying green. Amazing! Also, the verizon rep said that it is not good to drain the phone battery until it dies completely. I'm not sure I believe the other threads that say you need to completely kill the battery in order for it to know where the bottom threshold is.

What about: Settings/Applications/Running services?

I've stopped all the social networking apps that have been syncing constantly in the background. I'm betting these will help improve battery charge as well.

He was correct. Lithium Ion batteries should not be run to rock bottom over and over, it will ruin their lifespan. However, you may need to do it once a month or so to calibrate the chip inside of the battery so that it can report the correct level of charge to the phone.

I had terrible battery life because I think there was a bug where my battery level was reported wrong. If I restarted the phone, then the level would jump up and be fine. If I forgot to restart when it got low, it would turn off and would only turn back on if hooked up to charge. It would then turn back on and be nearly 50% immediately.

I think that this problem was fixed on the update. The last two days after the update I have had outstanding battery life. 7AM off charger, moderate use all day, and ended at 40% last night at 11PM when I put it on the charger.

The battery in my Droid X seems to be running great. I drove from Philly to Pittsburgh (a 6 hour drive) and with my BlackBerry I would have to either stop and charge it two times during this trip or arrive in Philly with a dead phone. Yesterday, I got back to Pittsburgh and still had 20% remaining on the device. This was after making several phone calls and playing around with the device at rest stops along the way. I for one have to say I'm pretty happy with it.

A little metric on mine. I charged it last night and at midnight it was at 100%, I put the phone in it's case, shut the display off and went to bed. 6 hours later, with the phone having gotten no calls, no email, no social network updating and done nothing I can see the battery is at 60%.

coming from droid I must say that the battery life on the x is significantly better. I have been monitoring the mhz and it does a great job changing speeds from 400 to 1000. Full day is definitely achievable with moderate use

A day in the life

Based upon the OP's statement, I decided to test my battery life yesterday. Here are the usage details:

* Power management set to "Smart Mode"
* Advanced Task Killer set to "Crazy"
* Twitter & Facebook widgets running
* Beautiful Widgets Flip Clock Widget running
* Bluetooth on all day
* WiFi on for about 2 hours
* 1.5 hours streaming MP3 to Bluetooth
* 1+ hour web browsing on Xscpoe
* 30 minutes of phone calls
* 50 text messages

I pulled my phone off of the charger at 5:30 am and at 5:30 pm my battery was at 30% charged. This is greatly improved performance over both my Droid and Incredible. While I would like to get a few more hours of performance, I would have to disagree that this device has horrible battery life. My 9650 Bold that I use for work has better battery life but then again it doesn't do anything but check email and make phone calls.

My conclusion is that this performance is solid for everything that this device is doing.

I had terrible battery life (5hours) then I did four things.
1. Deleted task killer, and any battery monitoring app as they seem to drain batter more then anything
2. Battery saver mode with data timeout set at 15mins
3. Adjusted all autoupdating widgets and apps to reup every hour as some are set at every minute or fifteen, email as well
4. Turned off phone (died) and charged for a few hours OFF. crucial, unplug, turn on, charge for another half hour.

All that said as i write this i've been unplugged since 815 this morning (15hours ago) and am at roughly 60% battery. I have 12 data intensive widgets and i've been playing with it for hours today, with wifi on for at least an hour, and bluetooth for 1.5hours with music at gym, probably 100 texts, a dozen or so phonecalls. So with moderate to heavy use i would expect AT LEAST 24 hours.

how exactly did you adjust the widgets (#3 on ur list)??? Sorry new to whole android/smartphone community

ive done a full deplete and charge cycle twice now since the update and everything does seem better... 3 hours into my day so far and its still showing 90%, Thats ~90 minutes of music, 5-10 mins of web on 3G, few email checks and now wifi for 90 mins

but i feel like with disabling social apps unless on wifi and some other stuff is sort of castrating the phone... well i guess not... I can always just use a facebook app or something to check it from time to time if i feel the need... which is rare..

I just need to make sure my email is syncing at all times. work related ya know ?

EDIT: also im in battery saver mode... cant decide if smart mode is better or not. Make that 80%.

Update: 10am, checked the battery, it's now at 40%. That's with no calls, no texting, display off and it sitting on the counter not being touched. WI-FI off, GPS off, Bluetooth off, no widgets, no updating.

Something is either wrong - or it's got something running I can't see. I hope the battery Verizon is sending overnight fixes this thing. I like the phone, but in it's current state it's not useable unless I want to haul a charging source around with me - if you see someone going down the road towing a wagon with a generator in it - that's me.

did you install spare parts and select partial wake usage of the battery? It'll tell you exactly what has been burning up the battery. You might have something in the backround like some dumb social app constantly pinging, killing the battery.

If you're running in Motorola's 'Smart' mode, make sure you change the off-peak settings to be the smallest allowable time period. Not sure why anyone besides Verizon would benefit from turning off data during off-peak hours, especially if your phone is plugged in and connected via your home wi-fi. There should have been a disable button for this 'feature'.
