Battery is horrible....

i cant stop all these background apps from running... the news and weather widgets keep running in the back ground... and i have never used them, google talk keeps running and ive never used that either... i keep seeing all kinds of things running... i was using Advanced Task killer, deleted that to see if it will help... i see in data manager you can shut down background data... but will that keep my gmail and facebook updates from coming thru if i shut that down??

For a normal business day it works from when i turn it on in the morning 8am and still has juice when i shut it down at night likr 11-12ish. I dont use it too much during the day but i have yet to have major issues.

Does disabling the Social Networking thing (setting it to sync only over Wi-Fi) do it just for Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) or does it do it for the email addresses you have set up too? Because I don't need Facebook updates all the time, but I would like my email sent to my phone when Wi-Fi isn't present.

My e-mail is still working fine. I have both yahoo and gmail and even with the social apps syncing over wi-fi doesn't affect that at all.

it seems like my battery life has gone DOWN after the new update today. I hardly used the phone at all today and it died about 4:00....This doesn't seem normal??

same here, I got almost 30 hours the day the update came out.... Since the phone updated.... I haven't seen 12 hours..... and I am not using it constantly, nor is it in an area searching for signal!

I had terrible battery life (5hours) then I did four things.
1. Deleted task killer, and any battery monitoring app as they seem to drain batter more then anything
2. Battery saver mode with data timeout set at 15mins
3. Adjusted all autoupdating widgets and apps to reup every hour as some are set at every minute or fifteen, email as well
4. Turned off phone (died) and charged for a few hours OFF. crucial, unplug, turn on, charge for another half hour.

All that said as i write this i've been unplugged since 815 this morning (15hours ago) and am at roughly 60% battery. I have 12 data intensive widgets and i've been playing with it for hours today, with wifi on for at least an hour, and bluetooth for 1.5hours with music at gym, probably 100 texts, a dozen or so phonecalls. So with moderate to heavy use i would expect AT LEAST 24 hours.

how exactly did you adjust the widgets (#3 on ur list)??? Sorry new to whole android/smartphone community

Can someone explain how step 2 was done? My battery saver profile doesn't give me the option to change the data timeout from 30 minutes. Thanks

A little metric on mine. I charged it last night and at midnight it was at 100%, I put the phone in it's case, shut the display off and went to bed. 6 hours later, with the phone having gotten no calls, no email, no social network updating and done nothing I can see the battery is at 60%.

Update: 10am, checked the battery, it's now at 40%. That's with no calls, no texting, display off and it sitting on the counter not being touched. WI-FI off, GPS off, Bluetooth off, no widgets, no updating.

Something is either wrong - or it's got something running I can't see. I hope the battery Verizon is sending overnight fixes this thing. I like the phone, but in it's current state it's not useable unless I want to haul a charging source around with me - if you see someone going down the road towing a wagon with a generator in it - that's me.

Is Verizon replacing ur battery for free? i'm currently having the same issues as you and i'm also considering taking it back

Yes, they are replacing it free. It should arrive today. I had the option of driving to their store (100 miles round trip) or having them overnight it to me, I opted for the overnight given I ride a bicycle and rarely drive. Apparently the stores have the capability to test the phone & battery and can determine which one is faulty. I'll try that next if the battery doesn't pan out. I really like the phone and want to keep it and Verizon wants to make it work.

This is my third smart phone. Each time I've always purchased an extended battery. I will buy one for x when it becomes available. I find that it's impossible for the battery to keep up no matter what I do. Phones to day have too many options available. If you are an above average user, extended battery is the way to go. Besides this way it will give you a spare. That's why I can never buy an Iphone even on Verizon. There is going to be time when you are out and about and there is no place to charge your phone. This is where a spare comes in handy.

Learn as much as you can about your phone. This way you can optimize based on your use.

First day I got the phone, I charged it upto 100%. That morning, I left for work at 6am. I got to work at 6:45 and was down to 90% already. That is not making ANY changes on the phone. As is, never changing or adding anything. Are you kidding me?! Within one hour I really drop that much? I went to Verizon yesterday. They did give me a brand new battery for free, and the tech installed ATK on my phone which I soon deleted the second I walked out. I thought a brand new battery would make the difference however, I have soon learned it didn't change a thing. I check out the battery manager. It shows the display is using 95% of my battery. Is this normal?!?!?! I have it set to the lowest setting it can get to.

I'd be lucky, in a great network zone with full 3G and moderate use to get 1 hour out of this thing. What am I doing wrong?!

I installed my new (free) battery today and noticed a big change in usage. With the original battery the display was using over 60% of the battery, and it wasn't lasting very long. Today I installed the new battery Verizon sent me and I'm seeing "voice calls" is up close to 60%, cell standby is 22% and display is 17%.

This is a HUGE change, and the ONLY thing I changed was the battery.

What are you folks saying to Verizon to get a new battery??

I went in today and the guys would not give me a free one, despite having a similar problem... Display is also eating up 70+% of my battery....

Whats the keyword to get yourself a new battery at no charge?

Really?! Weird. I just walked in yesterday and explained the problem. She was kinda beating around the bush a bit and told me a new battery would do nothing. However, at the end, I kinda insisted that I try it out so she threw it in the phone and I was on my way.

So they gave you a new battery, straight out of the box - just because you asked, for free?? ..... can you get me one?? haha

I got my battery over the phone, the nearest store is about a 100 mile round trip.

Here's what I did - uninstall everything the phone didn't come with and put it back to factory settings. Put phone in power save mode. I assumed Verizon would want me to do this before they did anything - when I called I found I was right. Everything they asked me to do I'd already done days earlier. When I called, I approached it from the standpoint of "I've done everything I can think of to get this thing to run right and it's not running right. Can you help me figure out what I need to do to get this thing working because I really like it." They agreed I could have a faulty battery or a faulty phone - and they sent me a battery since they said it's usually not the phone.
