Battery Left

Battery percent is pretty easy to understand.
what's the difference between the accuracy and accurate percent?
there seems to be large gap between the two.

Accuracy is basically how accurately the application is estimating your battery. So in the beginning, the app doesn't really have any data points to use, so your accuracy is low. As it collects more data points regarding your usage, the app gets more and more accurate in its estimation of your remaining battery.

Accurate percent is basically what the app thinks is your battery percent remaining. So with the droid, the OS reports the battery % left in 10% increments, so say it might say you have 80% left. But really you have somewhere between 70% and 80%. Your accurate percent is what Battery Left thinks your real % left is.

I have a few questions about battery left.

I have had it run for about 4 days now. almost full drain, full charge and on and on and on.

71% accuracy -
Battery percent -
Accurate percent -

overall the battery percent seems to be pretty accurate with what's actually left.
I just don't know what the other values really mean. i'd like to think i do but i don't

*EDIT: jbsangel beat me to it.*

This thread is getting long but this question has been answered. Also, if you update he has taken out --% Accuracy.

--% Accuracy is measuring how accurate the program is at reading battery levels.

Accurate percent is the programs determination of the actual battery level from what it's been able to determine. The higher the --% Accuracy number gets to 100, then the more accurate the "accurate percent" will be.

@preinvent - why take away % accuracy in the new one? i'm assuming no one actually got to 100%?

It's weird, after the update mine just says accurate, before it was only at 72% accurate.

But I love the ability to change what displays on the widget. I now have the estimated % and system %, since I like to compare.

Thanks for the positive comments!

Vertical widget - easy enough, but I think I'll have problems displaying text unless you're willing to read at 90 degrees ;)

Drain from left to right - I can look into this.

Accuracy % - I took it away because it was confusing. I had more e-mails about that than anything else, and IMO if I have to explain something then it's not intuitive to use and people won't like it. No one ever got to 100%, and I was finding that anything above about 40% was pretty accurate for me anyway.

Donate - I love it when people want to give me money! If you so wish, send it this way via Paypal: [email protected]. I've also added a donate button on http://preinvent.com/batteryleft.

Thanks!

Rotated text like this? Screenshot of Battery Widget

dito for all the rest.

paypal sent :)

Donation done. This latest update added everything I would want in a battery widget to go along with the estimated battery left concept.

<--- likes it a lot

I liked the accuracy percentage. I was at 82% i think, and it is useful for knowing which 10% decades still need data points to increase the accuracy. I know for my phone, I tend to charge around 20% left, so the data points below 20% are probably what was keeping my accuracy percentage from getting any better. But I can see the logic, if it is confusing to people, then it's important to find another way to present the information. I liked it, but it's not something I'll miss.

Any updates after this will just be icing on an already good app, imo. Comparing to other users would be cool, as would a screen that allows the user some insight into the programs workings, for example a screen that lets us see graphically the data being used to estimate battery life left and which data ranges need more data points to increase the accuracy. I understand there is a fine line though, in how much statistical data to present graphically. I understand there is a fine line though, in how much information of this nature to present; wouldn't want to reveal too much about algorithm and inner workings of the program.

Nice work, especially after the updates!

I have a few suggestions though...could you allow for temperature to be shown on the widget, and could you allow for any info to be shown on the notification bar icon (and not have to open the notification screen every time)?

The only other thing is purely about aesthetics...I'm currently using the Battery Life widget (by Curvefish) and it looks really nice. Perhaps you could maybe pretty it up a bit more?

I guess everyone has different tastes. I like this widget, especially so because it looks great on the large screen of the Droid. I don't care for the curvefish widget at all, especially with the silly bubbles coming off it when you display all the battery info. Plus, I kind of feeling like the look of the widget should be the devs preferences. its kind of like art. one persons scribble is another persons masterpiece.

Yeah, you're right. Looking at it again it does look fine as is, and the curvefish is a bit ridiculous. But the ONE thing I like about it is how bright the color is...the dark shading on this one just makes it feel a bit dull TBH, just my opinion!

Just wondering about the battery status screens shown on page 9 of this thread. I can't locate them on my phone. I have a HTC Eiris Droid. Am I missing something?

@preinvent

how does the application handle usage that is drastically different from normal, once it is reasonably calibrated and giving an 'accurate' reading? I wouldn't want a drastically off day or few days drastically affecting the calibration.

for example, i will be out of town next weekend, spending long days in the bowling center and will likely kill my battery in 8 hours and have to put in my spare, LOL. How do large deviations from "normal" affect the calibration? How much "normal" usage would it take to get the calibration back accurate for "typical" use?
