Battery Left

Hi GhostWheel...

Thanks for the praise!

Negative percentage means there's a bug! Somehow the app occasionally gets negative time readings which messes things up. I'm not 100% sure how it gets them but I need to add some code to find and ignore them. I suspect it happens when the phone is turned off/on, which would seem likely based on your usage.

I've been really busy recently so am a bit late getting a new version out, hopefully I can get a bug fix out soon!
I can tell you for sure that this is when it happened to me. I had to remove it and start it fresh because on one of the first days I had the widget running I turned my phone off while I slept or something, ended up totally screwing up the battery count. I'm guessing the battery knew how much time had elapsed and realized that the battery should have been dead hours ago, so it ended up way negative.

Hopefully this will be an easy fix, but now, since I don't turn my phone off, it hasn't been a problem.

The app worked great for me for about a month but recently it was always showing a percentage far less than the stock reading that wasn't realistic. I would charge it and within a few hours of normal use it would be down to 50% already, where as the stock would show 90%. I usually charged it before it would run out, but overnight last night I left it and woke up to a -5% left. I'm guessing somehow the calibration got off a little, so I've reinstalled and am calibrating again.

Hi all,

Based on your feedback & some e-mails I've just relased a bugfix version 1.8.1 to the market. Fixes include:

- Fix: usage button FC on 1.5 (just shows msg saying not available)
- Fix (hopefully): negative readings
- Fix: showing 12am instead of 12pm

I've also added a better color choosing popup so you an choose the full range of colors (including black) and change the alpha transparencies.

Coming soon is better support for Seidio extended batteries and a few other goodies.

Yep think there's a bug that was storing negative readings which brings down the whole estimation. You can either be patient and the reading will eventually drop out, or recalibrate. Sorry! I've just posted an update that should prevent this from happening though.

preinvent, thanks so much for all your work this really is a sweet app and works excellent it tok mine about 3 weeks to calibrate and is excellent.

remember guys it will re adjust after using the phone if it says 15 hours after charging thats not what it's going to be after using the phone , it will readjust with use

Has anyone else noticed a battery drain using this app?

I've been using this app for the past three weeks and I have been happy with it BUT, from the beginning I noticed that I seemed to be getting less life out of my battery than before installation. During the time I was using Battery Left Beta, I would average around 15-17 hours. Yesterday I uninstalled the app and as of right now (12 + hrs off charger) I am at 70% remaining.

It makes me wonder if a battery monitor widget wouldn't also contribute to some battery drain.

Just wondering..

Are you sure it's actual battery drain, and simply not the widget's bugs (now hopefully fixed?) reporting varying drain levels as it calibrated? In other words, have you confirmed that the battery is actually draining faster using the stock battery level indicator, and not just going by what Battery Left is reporting?

please tell us more about the updates on the seidio extended battery, super interested in this!

I don't have a battery to test with so I'm working in the blind a bit, but from what I can tell one of the main problems is that the battery runs down to 5% quickly then sites there for the majority of its life until it dies.

Whilst BatteryLeft /should/ be able to cope with this, I've identified a problem whereby Android never broadcasts that the battery has completely run down and the phone is shutting down. I'm working on a fix for this which may (or may not!) work.

Major Bug on new version

Running the Current Version (15) and here's a nice error on the widget :icon_eek::

Error is still present and hour later. (10:15 now)

Wow! That's wrong ;)

I know this sounds silly, but try restarting your phone to clear out any bad cached data. If it's still bad you'll need to recalibrate, sorry.

Let me know how you get on.

Matt
