[ROM] [BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for the Droid X

Can someone help me out i want to flash cm7 im hearing its stable but ive heard that i shouldnt have bootstrap installed when using cm7 why is that? And what if i decide to flash apex or liberty back after i gave cm7 a go? Would i have to sbf since ive heard bootstrap shouldnt be installed? Thanks in advanced if someone replies.

Bootstrap can't be installed because of the way the bootstrap is run. The only method is to hijack the boot sequence to get it into clockwork recovery. Since you'll be installing cm7, that method of recovery won't cooperate with the way cm7 boots via 2nd-init. You'd have to be bootstrapped via droid2 bootstrap to flash cm7 via recovery. Once you're in cm7, you have to install the updated 2nd-init recovery so they'll play nice with each other. If you wanted to flash to another ROM later, its as simple as rebooting into recovery via the power button reboot option, flashing whatever zip, then bootstrapping again on the new ROM so that clockwork is accessible. Clear as mud?

Hope that helps.

As always, if you have questions let us know.

Bootstrap stock ROM, reboot recovery, flash cm7, done.

Reboot recovery, flash whatever ROM you want, done.

The 596 all in one is just an update.zip just like any other ROM if I'm not mistaken.

in order to flash apex and liberty, you have to be on 596. to get to 596 from cm7, you have to sbf or use the tbh aio 596 updater.

But im already on 596 on my dx does flashing cm7 change this to a different build or something? Also does gps work? And what about the nightlies?

Razor, is that the case even if you use the monster zip? I used the original release from an sbf'd 340 installation.

cm7 can only be installed on the 340 (froyo) kernel.

apex and liberty and the others can only be installed on top of 596.

so, to go from cm7 to apex or the others, you have to sbf (then flash the 2 part rooted 596 rom) or flash the aio 596 updater thats in the tbh app. this aio 596 updater does an sbf and flash 596. no computer needed. pretty nice.

I flashed cm7 on my droid x over apex 2.0 just fine. So you dont have to be on froyo to do it.

when you install cm7, a script runs to make sure you are on the froyo 2.3.340 kernel.

you probably did the monster zip in the first post of this thread, which does an sbf for you.

Kernel Error

I loaded up CM7 yesterday and everything seemed to go smoothly, except when I went to install the latest nightly, I kept getting a kernel error. I tried re-downloading the file, same thing, even downloaded the previous one and got the same failure. I regret that I didnt take down the error message details because later (while I was playing with the sweet new settings) I put my phone into a non-recoverable boot-loop (tried wiping cache, user data... everything) and I was forced to re-sbf. I havent reloaded CM7 yet, i just bootstrapped back to my froyo bootstrap backup. Does anyone have any Ideas? Perhaps I was supposed to flash all of the nightlys in order? (sounds dumb... but I dont know...) I thinking I overlooked something, but I tried flashing both with the rom manager and then just reboot recovery and manually installing. What did I miss?

It could be a bad download. You don't have to flash all the nightlies in order. You can just flash the newest one from froyo.

rom manager backup question

this is, perhaps, a stupid question.

If I am currently on liberty GB v0.8, if I run a backup with the 2nd-init clockwork mod installed, will it backup properly? My basic question is whether (after flashing back up to .596) I will be able to restore my backup.

to be clearer (this is my plan of action)
1. backup liberty rom (does it matter which clockwork mod i have?)
2. install CM7 nightly (latest)
3. (if i decide to) sbf back to .340 (froyo), and then restore my liberty backup.

will this work? (it SEEMED to backup properly -- I am going to flash clockwork back to 2.5.0.7 and backup there as well, but just want to know if i can stay on 4.0.0.5)

Has anyone experienced the sound of notifications constantly going off when downloading from the market? Also, has anyone experienced constant vibrating when making or taking calls? These problems seem to plague me even after I have updated to the seventh and eighth nightly
Dont know about the sound, but...
go to Settings>Call Settings, and you'll see the options for the vibrating you dont like.

Im considering wiping everything and flashing CM again. Can I create a recovery? What I'm asking may seem stupid, but with all the problems CM has I'm not too sure if i can w/o screwing something up.
