[ROM] [BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for the Droid X

Do not install droid anything bootstrap once cm7 is installed. It isn't needed. You only need it that one time.

They use the same method. Common sense dictates it would have the same end result. Enjoy sbf'ng your phone though, we'll be here when you do it again.

7.) Install z4root and Droid 2 Boostrap. Make sure USB Debugging is turned on. If you use Droid X Bootstrap your head will explode and the polar caps will melt. Don't try it. Once you're rooted and recovery is bootstrapped, make sure you've got the CM7 file, the Google Apps file, and the CRT animation and Camera Fix zip files on your SD Card, reboot into recovery.

Its there.

@phalstead, you are both being aggressive, and wrong. the line you quoted is an admonishment not to use Droid X bootstrap while NOT in CM7. . His problem was that he loaded Droid2 boostrap ONCE in CM7. And, it would appear that the OP on this site didn't properly warn NOT to do so. If you look at other sites (for instance the more up-to-date rootzwiki) you will see that they explicitly point out that you cannot use a bootstrap and 2nd-init at the same time.

I was not trying to be aggressive. I felt attacked by phalstead for no reason what so ever. The original post does not say to not install a bootstrap once CM7 is installed. I have never had the privilege to use CM7 as my phones have never had it available. Thus, why the instructions need to very boldly say not to. This is even more true when it comes to using the second method with the monster file. In the instrcutions, it states to reboot back into recovery and reflash to fix the radio. If you have never used CM7, theres no way to know that it comes with its own bootstrapper, and droid 2's bootstrapper will cause the need to SBF. This is why i used the droid 2 bootstrapper, because it was the only one mentioned to use, and me being new to CM7, not knowing it comes with its own.

I was simply asking for some help, and offering some advice to others new to CM7 like me. As the original post needs to be edited to include this.

After rummaging through this thread for an hour I fight really get a clear answer. Can I go from Liberty AOSP to cm7 using the second method (clockwork) bc I'm on gingerbread 596? Or do I have to sbf to froyo? Only bc I'm coming from Lib. AOSP I'm not sure. Sorry if I missed the answer to this already.

Nah, you weren't aggressive. He was talking to phalstead. You are right, the original post doesn't warn against using bootstrap on CM7. Once in CM7, go to ROM Manager and flash Droid X 2nd init recovery. That's what you'll be using.

I'm pretty sure you can, but I would advise sbf'ing anyway. I went from Liberty 0.8 straight to cm7 and had a really terrible battery life (7-8 hours with light usage). After I sbf'ed and installed cm7 from scratch, the battery runs great with 20+ hours with light usage.

as the above poster said, i was admonishing phalstead for being aggressive to you. apologies for the confusion.

its no porblem.

I realized that after I reread it. By both, you meant agressive and wrong, not both as in the two of us.

I've been stuck since I tried to install it the second time around. after rerooting with z4root, I'm getting the "Damaged SD Card" message. just my luck, think something doesn't want me on CM7 lol.

Am hoping that my PC at home will still be able to read the card, and ill copy all my files over, reformat the card, and then try retransfering my files back. Not going to be happy if the card totally went out. Lots of pictures of nephews and nieces on there I hadn't had a chance to transfer off yet. Will find out when i get off work i suppose.

how do you back up your sd card on your lap top?

I am 99% sure i have isolated the reason for the bad battery issue surrounding cm4dx. When i reboot into recovery and select wipe battery stats, it is NOT wiping them. So I found an app that does it. Its called battery calibration. I charged my phone to 100% and then opened up the app and hit calibrate battery. My battery life seems to be back to what I used to get. Please try this out and let me know if it works for you all

You can do it a few different ways. Plug the phone in and copy and paste everything out of the SD card, or pull the sd car out of your phone, put it in a micro sd to sd card and put it in your computer, then copy and paste everything off of it.
