Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

If you are on the leaked 5.7.893 you can not get the 5.9.901
at this point in time you are off the beaten path and can't go backwards to move forward to this update

If it's just your system that's 5.7.893 (ie just the ROM having that version)
then yes you can use the 43v3r to - restore / root / 43v3r root your phone
then take the 5.5.893 OTA, then manually install the 5.5.901

but BEWARE. if you do this you can not, I repeat can not run a custom ROM after the fact.

you will be stock rooted with 5.9.901 but that's it. that choice is up to you.

Before you do anything...What are kernel are you on? Settings>About Phone

It has to be Eclipse v2.0 just showing 5.7.893 because I never installed 5.7.893 leaked update. At this point I would give up the custom rom for better 4G connection.

Still need to know the full picture before giving you instructions on what to do. Everything has to match for the updates to work.

When I got the phone it had stock 5.5.886 on it. Did 43v3r root choice #1, I know I didn't have to choose that one since it already had 886, but I did. After going through that process I went into About phone and did System updates which found 5.5.893. I installed that. After that I used Bionic Bootstrap so I could install Eclipse v2.0 rom. Wiped data, wiped cache, wiped Dalvik cache and install Eclipse v2.0 zip. After rebooting and going into about phone I notice system version said 5.7.893, which I still don't understand. Maybe you could shed some light on this.

The easy route would be to restore your 5.5.893 backup in CWR. Hopefully you made a backup. After you restore the backup Forever Root your phone or confirm that it is Forever rooted. Download 901 update and boot into stock recovery. Install update and reboot. You will need to uninstall superuser and reinstall it from the market after updating. For some reason you can't upgrade the software or use the update fixer.

No, I didn't make a back up, but if I restore to 886 with 43ver root then OTA to 5.5.893. Okay, so after manually installing 901 I have to uninstall superuser and reinstall from market. Thanks.

From what I remember it looks like you are on 5.5.893. Just restore your backup and from before you installed Eclipse. Verify you are on 5.5.893. Forever root then boot into stock recovery and install 901 update.

I am on 9.01, had a data drop this morning, but came back in about 10 seconds. 3g to wifi and back again switches fast now. Definitely a major improvement over previous update.

You just added a few steps.

1. Restore and Forever Root using option 1
2. Then download and install via CWR the file at this link. This will bring you back to 5.5.893 (NOT ROOTED)
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9815 Droid Bionic - CWR update.zip System only <886 ----> 893>
3. Forever Root...the update is not rooted.
4. Boot into Stock Recovery and install 901 update
