Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

No, I didn't make a back up, but if I restore to 886 with 43ver root then OTA to 5.5.893. Okay, so after manually installing 901 I have to uninstall superuser and reinstall from market. Thanks.

This is exactly what I did.

I was on the 5.5.893 OTA. Then installed Eclipse. I just 43v3r restore and rooted to .886. Accepted the OTA update, retained root. Then I used stock recovery to install the .901 update that I downloaded. You'll be good lluke.

ALSO:
- I have great data connection. Minus when I was trying it the night that the Verizon outage happened.
- Camera is a hell of a lot faster.
- Battery is a huge umprovement. I would say it's lasting about 3x as long.

My first impressions on 5.9.901? Impressed! Handoff between WiFi, 3G/4G is fast and seamless. Camera is better. phone overall is snappier. Battery lasts longer. Have to wait to see if the BSOD problem is solved. Only negative so far is the added bloatware, but it is what is is.

Did you ever install a leaked update? Need more information to help you out.
No the first thing I did once I got the phone was run the system check for updates...It found the 8.93 and installed it. THEN I Rooted and did the backups

Since I am running stock ROM and the factory OTA .893 what happens if I download the update and install it to my sd card and use recovery to apply the update?

As long as you Forever Root before you install the update you will have Rooted 5.5.901 on your phone.

I had two nasty data drops one after the other today. On 901 :(

Really...I've tried everything to make them happen but it is holding strong for me. We should all give it a few days before we yay or nay this update. So far it is a huge improvement over all the previous builds. Hope the data drops are flukes or network related.

Cool, thanks that's what I wanted to know. I just did the OTA to 893. One more question??? Once I go to 901 I cannot go back, or can I.

Zimm,,
Just curious, the Slingbox app is just like the Slingbox app in the market. Is it a link that will charge you for the app ala the Vcast services, or, did Verizon negotiate something useful? Fix'n to install a Slingbox Pro this weekend, would be nice not to pay $29.00 for the app :)

I haven't tried to use it yet but I did just look in the Market to see if it would show that I already had it installed. The one in the Market is listed as "SlingPlayer for Phones" at $29.99. The App that came with 5.9.901 is listed as "Slingbox"

You know what they say...Once you go...Ummm lets move on.

As of right now stick with 901. We don't know how this will react to the current batch of custom roms. I highly recommend making a backup of where you are right now.

Well there has been network issues the past couple of days. I believe I was inbetween LTE coverage and what not. Seem to have happened after I made a phone call while on the EVDO network. So I wouldn't have data, but then I think I got LTE while on the call.

Might have confused something. I don't know.

The Slingbox app is nothing more than a Video advertisement. The SlingPlayer app is the actual app to stream video from your home to your phone/laptop/tablet...

I did not use forever root to root my phone. so do I just download forever and run it and then reboot with recovery with the apply update selection? Thanks for all the help with this btw.

It is highly recommended to Forever Root before applying the update. You will probably not be able to root your device after the update.
