Bionic Camera Image Sharpness - Amazing!

I agree it's terrific to know that the camera has potential.

However until moto or the guys over at Camera Zoom FX put in some contrast and brightness correction we will have very sharp dull looking photos!

There are lots of attributes about camera performance that can be measured - image sharpness is among the most critical.

sharpness doesn't matter if you can't take a picture when you want it. For example I would rather have a blurry picture of bigfoot then no picture because the bionic took so long to take the picture.

Its a broken function plain and simple.

Not if you use Cameral FX as your camera app.

I'm glad someone else noticed this :)

my big question is how the ICS camera will translate to the NON-vanilla ICS phones... that's the only thing that keeps me skeptical about the camera being great on any device besides the Gnex...

I can almost answer this as I have the .893 update (radio and kernel) and a full ICS port (by Th3ory) and it is fast. Focus is fast and shutter is fast. I'm strictly a "snap shot taker" so I'll not comment on things relating to other qualities. I've taken a few shots with it and the sharpness seems good and the color rendition is certainly better than original. So, keep your fingers crossed and maybe this .893 will be the real OTA update coming soon.

When I was running stock 893 it was definitely faster, shot to shot anyway - initial focus was still slow at times. I ran reblurred with cream for a bit before switching to Liberty, didn't really notice a huge difference in the camera personally, to the point where it made me think "well maybe they don't have the new camera .apk in here". But I did NOT test it out very thoroughly at all before switching, so here's my block of salt with that comment. ;)

Ditto. What makes me skeptical about ICS being this all-mighty camera fixing miracle, is that Motorola cameras have ALWAYS sucked, while HTC/Samsung cameras have worked fine all along. Just like the Droid Charge. Comparing it to the Bionic's camera side by side, the Charge is sooooo much better. Using logic and common sense, I come to the conclusion it's Motorola's fault. I don't think it's the hardware, so it's obviously something they're doing with the software. What's to say they won't do this with ICS as well before it gets pushed out to our devices?

I agree 100% .. what I think is happening is that motorola 'gives and takes', while it may pay more particular attention to one aspect of a device, it slacks on another. Now for an example, imagine android as a circle, with lines of different lengths stretching out around the circle. Each line represents a feature of the phone. The lesser the length of the line, the lesser the quality of that feature, the longer, the better. Now, from my understanding, ICS will balance those lines out so you will have equal lines all around the circle. Balancing, if you will, the phones features with the software better utilizing the hardware. Hopefully to it's full potential...

Good analogy - the other fact that may or may not help Motorola owners is that Google owns Moto Mobility now...

I can only see that as a good thing for moto phones, having a company that knows what they are doing running it.

I don't know how they determined that the Bionic won, but comparing these two pictures, I'd say the Bionic photo looks like crap, as usual. I was using the camera on my friend's Bionic last night, was a POS. Can't wait to get my Nexus!

The Apple picture reminds me of the way pictures used to come out on Canon digital cameras: highly over-saturated. The Bionic pic is perhaps a bit underexposed but the colors are far more true to life. I don't have a dog in this fight, so just giving it to you from the perspective of someone who's worked in photography and prefers realistic tones.
