Buying a phone at Best Buy vs Verizon Store

When u buy a phone through best buy, what is the process...can u activate online through verizon or do u have to activate in the best buy store...Im switching from another service to verizon for the TB so i have to port my number...can i buy the phone at best buy, come home and call verizon and have them do everything or do i have to deal with best buy...ive never bought a phone from any place besides the service provider so im not too excited that best buy is getting it and theres still no word as to when verizon stores will have it...

Also, once you sign ur contract for 2 years and u do it at best buy are there different rules and or regulations that wouldn't be there if i got it through verizon...is there any drawbacks from purchasing a phone from a third party distributor? I just don't like the idea of getting from best buy when ill probably be dealing with Verizon for the entire time i have the phone...if something goes wrong with the phone, does verizon back up the phone? If i go to a verizon store after i purchase the phone from best buy do they still stand behind it or am i essentially stuck with whatever best buy wants to do...
Basically, after my purchase do i have any tie to best buy or do i deal entirely with verizon...

thanks

Does anyone know if
1. Best buy can do the annual upgrades?
2. Can they bill to Verizon accounts?

Your tie to Best Buy is that they will have their own terms (typically 6 months for these third party sellers). For Amazon, who I bought my Pro from, their "terms" state that you have to keep the line active for six months (181 days). If you are a single line when you activate, you can't move it to a secondary.

If you're ALREADY a secondary, you can activate as a secondary with no problem.

I don't know about Best Buy.

@Jvandyke:
Do you mean can they bill the phone to your account? the answer to that is going to be no.

Dang!!! I always bill phones to by account @ the Verizon stores that way I have time to sell my old device. Thus it's a trade off and my new phones are free in the long run.

Depends on the discount price that you get from the third party. Amazon sold me my Pro for $130 below VZW.

ok, so I'm still kidna confused about the billing....I'm on my dad's acct, he's the primary number, but I'm the only one that's going to upgrade to a smartphone, If I were to get it at BB, does that present any type of difference than if I were to just get it at the vzn store? Meaning like can he still pay our cell phone bill through verizon.com?

I just called BB - no stipulations on contract outside of what Verizon normally does and yes you can still manage it online through Verizon. I bought my last phone at Walmart and did not run into any difficulties with how my account works with Verizon.

The only difference is the possibility of some small additional terms through BB, but someone else said there are none, so there ya go.

quick question-
I know that if I buy my phone at a verizon store, we get a 20% discount on phones/data plans b/c my parents work for someone connected to verizon. would we be able to get this at best buy?
I feel like we wouldn't be able to, but thought I'd ask.
thanks

You can get your phone at BB then go to Verizon and get them to apply the discount. That's how I did mine.

So if the phone does come out in BB before Verizon I can pre order my phone which will be an upgrade, and everything else will work as if I went to the VZW store itself? I have never pre-ordered a phone nor have I ever bought from a 3rd party, so I am clueless about how it all works..

If i have an early upgrade (upgrade after 13 months on a 2-year contract) can i buy the phone at a 2-year contract price from best buy?
