Camera Fix and it works

Ya I didnt touch the lens and it focus great right now, the pictures are awesome looking, maybe some body can do some comparisons with iPhone or other phones just for fun, Id wanna see how big of a difference this makes.

Ask... And Ye Shall Receive!

I just compared pictures taken with my iPhone 3GS and my DROID.

All conditions were identical i.e. subject. lighting, 3mp size (I reduced the DROID's in camera) etc. and...

iPhone: more vibrant colors, slightly better dynamic range

DROID: much more 'realistic colors, greater constrast, sharper picture overall.

Either way, It's nice to know that the DROID can finally take a good picture.

Note: I'll try to do more extensive testing later in the week (I realy don't have time right now).

Nope. Google’s Dan Morrill explained that the camera issues have been pinned down to a date-related bug:
There’s a rounding-error bug in the camera driver’s autofocus routine (which uses a timestamp) that causes autofocus to behave poorly on a 24.5-day cycle. That is, it’ll work for 24.5 days, then have poor performance for 24.5 days, then work again.
The 17th is the start of a new “works correctly” cycle, so the devices will be fine for a while. A permanent fix is in the works.
wow incredible....

so they are pushing for the 11th as to remedy it before it hits again....

frakking insanity. Google is top notch. So damn glad I got this phone and left BB behind.

Imagine this being a RIM issue. We'd be in the dark for months

:word: it takes RIM several leaked versions before they usually fix anything and then FOREVER to go through testing and official release. Google ftw.
I don't think this will be an issue. Since the update is supposed to fix that on the 11th so.
Yeah, now that I see the explanation from the Google Guy, I think we'll be fine. 24 days for the 17th is the 11th lol

Yes, if the 24.5 days is correct, the 10th or so the focus would go back to crap.

I think they should leave it...."take all of your pics when I say you can...drooiiiid

If that really is true, that's quite possibly the dumbest bit of programming i've ever seen.

I'm in awe of the sheer stupid on the part of Google. At least they updated it quickly, I suppose.

rofl "Droid has decided to deactivate your focus, you will focus when Droid WANTS you to focus. Now go take blurry photos you worthless flesh bag."

What if this is just a big setup by moto and goog to give it more press after the rush of initial sales?

"Oooo the reviews said the camera is great now. That was holding me back"

Do you think tomorrow the keyboard could extend itself and remove the useless d pad? Show me what you got, droid-o

I have read just the first page of this thread and said, let me check the camera. I didn't clean the lens yet or reset the phone. Wow, it's green corners every single time now. I thought some of you were exaggerating but now the camera focuses. I have yet to see any red.

Something happened. Maybe an update downloaded in the background. This would have to be the only way as I have noticed that programs are often using memory even when I haven't clicked on them. I use the Killapp tool to conserve memory.

Good stuff people.

You should try reading more than the first page. ;)

I just set my date back to a week ago and the camera couldn't focus to save it's life. Put the date back to today and have green corners almost every time. Looks like that was the culprit.

whaa??? huh???? A timestamp affects the .... FOCUS?!?!?! Wha???

Yea I realize that. I am at work so I didn't take the time to skim through the thread. This is still good effort because any other product would have taken weeks to update or months to resolve any issues.

Hmmm?

This raises a few questions for me since before custom-painting my DROID, I meticulously cleaned the entire surface (including the camera lens) on the device with denatured alcohol, yet the camera still performed rather poorly.

It's my belief that Motorola/Verizon slipped a 'stealthy update' past us, and 'fixed' the issue.

Either way - Nice!

you PAINTED it!? You sir have some balls. Can I see it!?

Personally, I'm just happy that my DROID has taken yet another step towards Gadget Perfection - The Camera Actually Works!

Note: Not intended as a 'thread jack'... check my profile for pics.
