Camera Fix and it works

Hmmm?

This raises a few questions for me since before custom-painting my DROID, I meticulously cleaned the entire surface (including the camera lens) on the device with denatured alcohol, yet the camera still performed rather poorly.

It's my belief that Motorola/Verizon slipped a 'stealthy update' past us, and 'fixed' the issue.

Either way - Nice!

BTW everyone should check this post out on Howard Forums regarding the current DATE/TIME of the phone relating to autofocus:

HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - View Single Post - Do you have camera problems? NOW FIXED???

THIS MAY BE CORRECT ! just changed the date on my phone back to Nov. 11th and now i'm getting "red boxes" and ugly pictures again-

I tried it on the 11th, red box, 13th, red box, 15th, red box, 17th, green box. So it does appear that is a very valid point.

Ok...

I just called the spouse, who also owns a DROID, and asked for a camera test to be performed.

No Lens was cleaned, no adjustments made whatsoever, and BAM!
Perfect Focus Every Time!

Again: I'm pretty sure that Motorola/Verizon did some kind of stealth update last night that fixed the issue.

you PAINTED it!? You sir have some balls. Can I see it!?

Mine's always green now, which isn't saying much. I can try to focus while spinning the phone in circles and it shows green. I'm sure anyone could've reprogrammed the phone to turn red to green w/o it actually improving anything. I'm not really sure if the focus or blurriness has improved at all or if the "fix" was just to shut up the people solely focused on the red corners. I personally would prefer a picky focus than one that lies and says it's always good (then ends up blurry when you review after the shot). Hopefully, the official update will still offer improvements.

Just read this On Endgadget
Nope. Google’s Dan Morrill explained that the camera issues have been pinned down to a date-related bug:
There’s a rounding-error bug in the camera driver’s autofocus routine (which uses a timestamp) that causes autofocus to behave poorly on a 24.5-day cycle. That is, it’ll work for 24.5 days, then have poor performance for 24.5 days, then work again.
The 17th is the start of a new “works correctly” cycle, so the devices will be fine for a while. A permanent fix is in the works.

i don't know if anyone else noticed this but a couple days ago i had an icon in my status bar that read "loading data"- it stayed that way for about 45 minutes then went away... this could have been some kind of OTA update:icon_eek:

I had the same thing late last night. No information about which app was loading data. It was a spinning circle, right, not like the usual page with down arrow...

This morning it was still runnin on my phone. I killed all the running apps and it went away. I didnt clean my lens and now my autofocus is working perfectly.
