Coming Soon to a Droid near you!

What I think

I think the integration of 2.1 and Flash 10.1 is amazing, definitely a step forward thanks for keeping myself and other android users updated.

Check this vid out from adobe showing flash running on the droid...freekin sweet!

I don't understand what there was to be upset about yesterday....Nexus came out.....big deal, it's a droid with a smaller dimmer screen and an inflated CPU count that is in actuality equal to the droid. We already knew 2.1 was coming to droid once it was compatible. And if you have tried going to any flash site on your droid you also would have known flash was coming soon (funny side note, if you switch dolphin to iphone mode and go to flash page it basically says until Apple changes their rules there will never be flash on iPhone...lol)

Google is manufacturing the Nexus. Why would Moto give up on their best phone because their partner/competition released a phone. There will be plenty of OS updates and firmware updates to go around on the Droid. All the kids on here just saw the new toy on the block and figured it was better than the red truck they got for christmas and got all huffy about it!

Droid is right now the best phone on the market, simply because it is an amazing Android phone on verizon.

As for the Nexus....not really that impressed. 4GB memory card bundled....why not just tack on the extra 20 bucks and make it $199 for 16GB? Anyone that has owned the Pearl can tell you how horrible the track ball is for anything. I personally really like the keyboard for console emulation. I don't use it to type, but its the closest to a control pad I'm gonna get on a phone (unless Sony finally releases the PSP Phone!)

No need to worry, the droid will stay a great phone until you are ready to upgrade ;) But I will personally be sticking with Android phones.

@ gentlefury - AMEN! I'm reading the N1 hype and all the droid owners concerns and I'm like...really???
Now if only Droid had a half-way decent email app, now THAT would be awesome! the email (all, gmail, corporate...I use pop3 so not knowledgeable about exchange) is truly despicable. I can't believe it's not all over the boards. Gmail doesn't sync when it doesn't feel like it, corporate (which I use cause can't not get my emails for a day) pushes emails that I've read and/or deleted right back into my box, non-stop. So I spend all my time opening/closing (to indicate read or to delete) the SAME emails, over and over and over. So productive. I truly cannot believe people aren't FLIPPING OUT over this. Bizarre to me that at least one email app can't work well (not to mention the options are very limited). Email apps are not new, this should have been a no brainer.

Besides that, LOVE my droid (but email is a big one, I have 2 pop3 accounts, one work and one personal).

The flash will be nice. Personally I'm more interested in Landscape support/functionality for the Home screen. I really do not understand why this isn't/wasn't implemented to begin with. The base coding is obviously there (since it functions when the keyboard is open and programs like Home++ can access it) so wtf did Google and/or Moto not activate it for the Home screen.
I'm actually glad they didn't. I have PandaHome and turned that functionality off. It drove me nuts having my home screen flipping all over the place.

I'm assuming thats why they did that.

They can, and should have it supported and allow the user to turn it on/off (just like they do with the program orientation). Personally I use the phone far more in Landscape and am highly annoyed to have to turn the phone over for and then back again (as I don't use the keyboard). To each there own (which, if I'm not mistaken was part of Droid's whole marketing campaign 'fully customizable'... well personally I find it no more, and sometime even less customizable than the WM ROMs I was running).

try home ++ it's awesome

I have 3 gmaiul accounts synced to my moto droid and they work just fine. I have a message show up as soon as it comes to my gmail inbox on all my notifications.

Now having said that I would like to sync contacts and calender to more than one gmail account but I can live with out that ability. The droid brings so much and more to the table.

Flash

I use my Droid every day to check weather for aviation and I am having one problem. When I bring up satellite imagery and click on "animate" it never goes into animation, just continues to give me a still image. Will Flash cure this?

I have 3 gmail accounts synced to my moto droid and the work with out a hitch. I get real time emails as they come to my gmail inbox.

I would try gmail again, but my personal email (@starpower.net) will not allow me to set up forwarding through gmail which shows my starpower address as sent mail (something about TLS server? - of course they say it's a gmail issue, gmail says its a starpower issue). In other words, when I reply to an email that came into my gmail account (forwarded from starpower), my response email says "sent from [email protected] on behalf of [email protected]" (instead of "[email protected] as it should). It's hokie and a show stopper for me, just confuses people and is tacky.
I don't know how to get around this. If I could, I would consider playing with it more to see how my gmail may be able to refresh properly. (other issue is that I don't like the gmail interface, but I could likely get over that).

Anybody experience this and have a solution?
Thx!

For those asking about Netflix steaming, it won't work after we get Flash. Netflix uses Silverlight for that.
After reading the other thread on Netflix streaming, and checking the requirements on the Netflix site, I didn't think it was possible to watch instant Netflix movies on the Droid. Am I missing something? Is it possible or will something come along to make it so?

I cant wait for the flash! It's going to make the internet so much better. Also, does anyone know exactly what the 2.1 update is going to be doing, other than the home screen flipping

Does your starpower.net email have POP3 access? If so, you should be able to set it up with Gmail.

Mail Fetcher - Gmail Help

You will then also be able to 'Send Mail As', under Settings > Accounts and Import
