Complete Droid X .sbf Flashing Guide

Will this work for bootloader 29.01?

Is that the 2.1 verion of the bootloader for the DroidX? Or am I correct in guessing that you are on a different device? :)

I guess it's the 2.1 bootloader, not sure it's my buddies and I'm trying to gtalk him through going from 2.1 Update 1 rooted, to, 2.2 rooted, yes it's the X

Then yup, but you need the 2.1 .sbf file. If you're trying to upgrade, you'll need the 2.2. update.zip file to get to 2.3.15, then you can OTA to 2.3.340.. (Assuming that you're trying to upgrade.. that is...).

I can't get RDS to recognize my phone. I have tried it on two different computers and have tried the Linux approach.

My computer used to recognize the phone before this problem... now it only says: "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it"

The green led is on when plugged into the usb port and it won't stay on the bootloader screen. Does this mean that the battery is too low to perform the flash?

What should I do?

How do you have bootloader 29.01? Didn't it ship with 30.01? I have no idea...although, anything newer should work on an older bootloader... I'd just OTA up the ladder if I were you

Ok just went through the SBF. but it looks like RSD froze up at the end. It says "Please manually restart you phone" but it booted up by itself. I restarted it and it is RSD still says please manually restart. I feel like it is safe to unplug but I wanted to ask.

I attached the screen shot.

Also I was surprised to see all of my apps still on the phone. I thought the SBF would clear the data. Should I factory reset so it is totally clean?

You're safe, RSD is really only active until the phone reboots, then it won't do anything anyway (unless you boot back to bootloader screen, then it'd say finished, but ... not required...).

If you were on a blur ROM, you might be ok not clearing data/cache... but it's always recommended.

No idea, it's my buddies and I don't even have the phone. Just trying to figure out the safest and eaisest way to get him from where he is, to the newest 2.2. I can handle getting him rooted after that.

I also got this same issue. No issues were caused after unplugging the phone and exiting RSD Lite. However, I thought by flashing to a new SBF that my phone would be completely wiped and in NIB condition.. my droid x booted up with the same home screen and all my apps installed, bloatware still frozen/renamed. I checked the version and it indeed flashed to 2.3.15 (from 2.3.9)

What gives? I'm trying to reflash/restore factory state so I can get the 2.3.340 OTA update

A stock (brand new) phone doesn't contain anything in /data or /cache... So the .sbf doesn't have a need to do anything with those dirs. Wipe /data and /cache will fix you right up. You can do it with the stock android recovery (holding home while powering up the phone, then hitting search button at the android recovery screen).

Also, without wiping data/cache, you can still take the OTA. It doesn't do anything with /data /cache either.

I did the first part then when I went to do the Linux and SBF_Flash part, I couldn't do it cause I don't have a terminal... I unplugged after it was finished and when I go to turn it on it keeps going back the the black screen with writing. Please help.

There is a windows section, and a linux section for .sbf. You only need to do one or the other.
At this point, you DO need to .sbf.

At the top of the screen that it boots to, it should say what bootloader you have, which one is it? (Make sure you have he right .sbf file)..

Give it another shot.... ?
