Cover "water damage" area on droid

Vzw pritty much told me to take the eris from Asurion, Buy a phone a retail price, or add a third line.

If that's the way Asurion is with their insurance, why would I even want it ?? 10 bucks says there is something in their fine print that allows them to select a phone of "equal" replacement if the Droid isn't available.

or lesser value, type of thing. I say we check it out, if there isnt any verbage, we all break out Droids, and when Asurion doesnt replace our phones, we file a clas action lawsuit and reap the rewards.. :)

i find this extremely hard to believe. i just had to goto verizon yesterday for a replacement and they did not have any droids in stock so there sending me a brand new unit that is being shipped directly from Motorola.

Quoted from the ins brochure
• Asurion may fulfill claims with new or remanufactured equipment.
• Asurion’s goal is to fulfill claims with the same make and model you claim. If your model is not available, a like-kind make and model will be substituted.
• Color and features are not guaranteed.
• Replacement of accessories may be with generic or non-original manufacturer accessories.

Garrett if you have a MFG problem then you take it to VZW and they send you a new phone. If you break it you call Asurion and they send you a comparable model. as if the eris could even hold the droids jockstrap. I didnt buy an Eris I bought a Driod. Now give me a Droid

I am always very careful with my devices. That said, I was in a minor accident two days ago and....the Droid is a bit on the broken side. The screen is cracked severely and I will be using my insurance to get a new one (the phone's insurance as my car insurance will not cover it).

Crap happens. I have never broken a phone before but boy am I grateful that I had the insurance or I would be out nearly $600 to replace this phone. I paid the $89 deductible and will have paid 1 month of premiums. Not bad, a new Droid for under $100.
I dropped my Motorola Droid phone in the toilet. (sigh). I have the full warranty coverage and started the process to request a replacement for the $89 deductible. I've had the phone for just under 6 weeks. The insurance company (Asurion) says the Motorola Droid is no longer available as a replacement and my choices for a replacement are the Eris or the Devour. I put the replacement order on hold to research which phone to choose. Both say they are low value options to the Motorola Droid. So,,, they want me to pay $89 for a phone that I did not want nor did I buy in the first place. Not. I'm heading to my local Verizon store to chat with the manager and offer him $89 for a replacement Motorola Droid phone. These are clearly still available. They are the featured "Buy one, get one free" model on Verizon's home page. Not sure what is up with the insurance company insuring Motorola Droids when they cannot replace them. That's a battle for another day..

Please keep us posted.
Will do, I'm heading to my local store after work. Thanks for your feedback. This smells like a rat... Oh, by the way, if I were to choose the Devour model as a replacement, Verizon is offering the new Devour phone for $79. So, why would I pay $89 to the insurance company for a Devour to replace my Moto Droid? omg. My head is hurting with all that is wrong with this.

If Ass-ur-in wants to go that route, maybe I need to look for a private insurance company to cover my phone. They can't tell me that that with all the people that pay them money for insurance each month, that they don't make enough to cover the cost of a replacement Droid. I've never once had to use insurance to replace a phone, yet had insurance. So MY money should at least help SOMEONE get a new Droid. I can understand making a profit, but at least get me a replacement that is CLOSE to what I had, not some wanna-be piece of crap.

Or maybe I need to save $600 and lock it away as my own personal insurance. Take the $6/mnth + $89 and put it in that account as well.

In the past they would get you a new one if they didn't have a refurb available. Demanding that you take a much lesser phone in exchange is not credible, even if their terms dictate they can. I have to file a claim soon as well, been living with a cracked screen for awhile now. They can replace it with a Droid 1, Droid 2, or Droid X, but nothing else. In fact I'm going to wait until Droid 2 is out before I make a claim. :)

i feel the pain, 2 weeks after i got my droid, plop in the toilet out of the top pocket. i had the insurance however a week to get it to me. took my wifes upgrade for $100 had it the next day. i thought the contract said same like kind or quality? eris or devour, wtf.
i would hound them until the replace with a droid x or droid. keep calling until you get satisfaction. you will eventually get a CSR that just wants you off the phone. worked for me in so many ways with Verizon.

Well I went to the local VZW store to see what they can do. Waited for about 45min to talk to a supervisor. Told him the situation with Asurion trying to push the eris on to the people that have the Droid. He said that he would have to hear it for himself. Any way when the asurion rep and supervisor said that the droid was no longer being made he went off the deep end. "What are the people that bought Droids and ins going to do when their droid breaks?" Reply was "we will give them the Eris."

The Rep wasn't happy with that and asked for the inhouse recovery Dept. Apparently this is Asurions Dept that handles in store ins claims. Any way after about 25 min I got a brand new Droid right out of the box. Long story short go in upset and VZW will do their best to make it right.
Oh btw, when I was finishing up the VZW sales rep said "I guess we know who bought up all the Eris stock when we discontinued the phone." and was told that if I have any more issues with Asurion just come to the store directly

I got the best buy black tie with the Droid. $10 a month, no deductible, covers accidental and water damage. Well worth it IMO.

Yeah, imagine when you go and find out you have to ship away your phone while they attempt to fix/repair it before replacement... You will not be getting a replacement in any timeline like the Asurion one.

Have fun with that!

Damn man... Thats a great Idea... I might consider doing this.

I'm sure you realize this, but I am posting it more for the benefit of others that might read it. BB Black Tie protection does not cover lost/stolen equipment. Asurion does. That is one of the major differences between them.

$79.99 is the price with a new 2 year commitment. Full retail price is $479.99 which is what it will cost to replace it.

Success! At much angst and stubborness, Asurion is now sending me a new Droid. I went to my local store and the tech was sympathetic but had no authority over the insurance company. He checked the Devour and the Eris and neither is compatible the the multitude of accessories I bought with my Droid, so I would need to purchase new accessories. NOT. Neither of the options offered a dock, so I would not be able to use that feature. The tech told me I could upgrade one of my kid's phones (for $150) and give the kid the Asurion replacement. NOT. Finally, the tech called Asurion and they started to tell him the Motorola Droid was no longer being manufactured. lol He "got his dander up" and firmly told them that the Motorola Droid is most certainly being manufactured as it is currently Verizon's premiere phone. Lo and Behold, the Asurion rep then said that the Droids are out of stock and they are backordered and that's why only similar models show up as replacements. She said they never know how many Droids to keep in stock. She told him I have to call Asurion every day and hope that the Motorola Droid is in stock when I call. When it is, I can complete my claim and they will send me one. No, she doesn't know when more are expected in. What a zoo. I suggested they put a check box option on the website that says something like "Your current phone is out of stock. Check here if you are willing to wait and be placed on the backorder list, or, you may select one of the following similar phones". And, guess what? They could run a report on how many boxes are check marked and order at least that many. They could also study the trends to see what the average amount of replacement phones they need on hand. Is this not common sense in this "new" computer age? All of this happened Wednesday night. I dutifully called Thursday morning and had to re-explain that I just wanted to know if the Droid replacements are in. No, they were not. But, viola! This morning I called and the Asurion rep called up my 4-day old unfinished claim and said that "Yes, we have the Droid replacements now". She acted like I was a nimrod when I was so excited to complete the claim. They are now overnighting a new Droid to me. Since this is a Friday, I should expect it on Monday. Holy smokes, one little checkbox on a web page and I would be a completely happy customer.

Lessons learned, if you use the insurance, do not accept that you cannot get your current phone replaced. The website will not offer you the option to wait for backordered hardware, which you can do. I'll be they make a ton of $$ replacing $600 phones with $250 phones.

Thanks for allowing me to rant, and for this wonderful forum.

im not sure if this had been posted on here yet but from what i was told and read there is also some water dam. sticker type things on the inside also for reasons of people trying to get around the ones on the outside. But this could be a rumor

Let's just hope the Droid doesn't have the same problem iPhones have with their indicator. Many people have reported their indicator changing colors even though they never had it in water (confirmed by countless people). Apparently, if it's in a humid enough environment, it'll change the indicator (like a bathroom when someone takes a shower or a really humid day). When these people have problems with their phone, Apple won't replace it because they claim it was in the water (which voids the warranty).

Theirs turns red (when I saw the one on the Droid I got worried!) and some people have tried bleaching theirs back white with mixed results.

We're also talking about the same company that won't honor a service contract because a persons Mac is located in a home with a smoker.

I thought the insurance covered water damage, anyway?

Say what? Thats messed up!!!

The insurance covers everything, including water damage.. The 1 yr warranty is what doesnt cover water damage
