crappy battery after OTA

I was just trying to add to the thread that I too had the horrible battery life after the update. My prior setup before the update had not change. It is just curious how the update would cause such a significant change. I have always kept my power saving techniques in use both before the update and after. Have to go now. Less that 3/4 of a day minimum usage and I am flashing the red battery!

Have you done the reset and other steps suggested in these threads?

The biggest change I've noticed, is that they partitioned the 3G Data and phone signal. You can now disable 3G when not in use with the pulldown screen. I recommend doing this, because even though you may not be using data, it's still active in the background.

I've also noticed that the Facebook app seems to be using more ram than before. Whether because of the recent Facebook App update or Froyo, I'm not sure.

I do everything manually on my phone, with the stock power widget: screen brightness, gps, wifi, bluetooth are all off unless I'm using them.

I've noticed that with Data turned off, the battery barely goes down: 2% in just over 2 hours yesterday. It seems the phone battery is comparable to a normal cell phone with data turned off. When I turn it on, all email and notifications (i.e. Facebook) happen in about 30 seconds, so there's no reason to have data or anything else on when not in use.

Follow Jenaht's reset steps and be more mindful of the data on/off button and let us know if it helps.

I don't use the FB app - I use Flow. Have you read anything where it uses more RAM as well? I stopped using FB after their update and it became nearly impossible to use. Slow. Plus not enough features..anyway I'm curious.

I tried doing everything manually but found I like to be notified sometimes! That's why I recommend Juice Defender Plus so much. It turns off data/wifi when not in use but had scheduled check ins.

I am am doing ALL the power saving techniques. I also am turning off the new widget for the mobile data ; however BEFORE the update I got steller battery life by just kept auto synching off. Its off now. When at home I turn on wifi, off mobile data. A difference I see is at settings> accounts & sync I now have to have backgrounds & sync check on now because I get errors messages now saying apps can't sync. BEFORE the update I had this off and those apps that had to sync could and I would just press my email icon to pull my mail; select the circle refresh in Facebook to pull the latest boring updates to friend lives (lol) etc. Something is different in the way froyo does things; something is on constantly or just more that was not on before. I am in a low signal at my home: maybe they have boosted the power to getting a better signal (as others have said the fascinate has had lower bars then other phones) and my power now drains faster because of this. However BEFORE THE UPDATE I managed the power saving for my home situation just fine, and routinely got a day and a half. Now 8 hours. Sigh!

If you haven't already, try factory reset, followed by *228, then battery recalibration. All posted in different threads.

Wow that is great. I don't get quite that good! Are you rooted?

If you follow both his tips and usage patterns you should get the same results barring a battery issue. I get about ten hours from my droid x. I check my subaru forum quite a bit. I also have a lot of widgets, live wall paper, seven screens, email checked every fifteen minutes, facebook ap and so on. I think if I dropped some screens and changed a few things I could stretch it to fifteen or so.

My wife is even harder on the fascinate. Bluetooth on all day. Steaming music while not charging a ton of voice usage etc. I stopped blaming froyo about ten days ago. Getting her the biggest battery I can find, juice defender plus and leaving it at that.

Jen...I have done all of the above. I can not get the phone back to its prior battery life.

I'm wondering if it's time to get spare battery a try? A new one I mean. I was going to try that if the reset and battery recalibration hadn't helped. I'm sorry - did you also try battery recalibration?

I haven't tried Flow - what features do you get with it? I guess I could just try it out...

You can tag photos for one thing. That was important to me. There are some other nice aspects to it too. More features than standard app

Nope. Completely stock - though I do have some hidden menu stuff activated: I have no puzzle/unlock screen for instance, which is capital.

I use the Black Wallpaper app.

My phone is rather boring to look at, lol, but who really looks at it but me, right? Besides, I like showing off the screen with the Fascinate's spectacular movie/video quality. It's still the best. Even the HTC Thunderbolt doesn't compare. Movies look soft/low res.
