crappy battery after OTA

Wow that is great. I don't get quite that good! Are you rooted?

Nope. Completely stock - though I do have some hidden menu stuff activated: I have no puzzle/unlock screen for instance, which is capital.

I use the Black Wallpaper app.

My phone is rather boring to look at, lol, but who really looks at it but me, right? Besides, I like showing off the screen with the Fascinate's spectacular movie/video quality. It's still the best. Even the HTC Thunderbolt doesn't compare. Movies look soft/low res.

Oh I know! Great screen. I use a black wallpaper..out mostly black. No FB/TWITTER contacts synching, use Juice Defender Ultimate now because of all options I've posted before as well as turning off data when screen is on. It's easier for me to let the app do it as I like the 30 min scheduled checking for updates. I do have screen locker.

But my battery life is just loads better. Oh and no widgets. Only one screen.

Search the market for: black wallpaper. It's an app, you you activate it from your apps selection, not the live/wallper menu. It looks like this:

On droid forums for Samsung Fascinate, search the 'stickies' forum for the 'tips and tricks' thread.

It's quite easy to do, and doesn't interfere with any other functions.

Hmmm...I have too have Background Data on for the Market to download. That was not needed on 2.1! I had Background Data and sync off in 2.1. Hmmm....I turn on Background Data and my battery drains faster. I have one weather widget going. And Smooth Calendar widget which does no synching. Hmmm.....

Hmmm... background data kicked on automatically in 2.1, and always ran in the background, so it's always been needed to use the market. Hmmm... look at your 'running applications' and notice there's no constantly running background data apps running like 2.1 had. Hmmm... 2.2 seems to require more options for controlling what you have running manually, as opposed to making you have to 'force stop' background apps on the 'running applications' menu.

Hmmm... my battery use has been improved over 2.1 as per the pictured I posted.

Hmmm... I wonder, do you think those are forged, or that my stock 2.2 Fascinate is powered by unicorns and rainbows?

Have you tried turning off FB and Twitter contact sync once they have been downloaded to phone? That helps. I still have Background data checked. But my phone only connects to either mobile data or wifi if A) I select it to, B) the scheduled check is active (every 30 min). I use Juice Defender Ultimate to manage the sched. It also allows me to have screen on without being connected; unless again I choose to be.

Also using Autokiller Memory Optimizer (on default since not rooted) helps. Same with a black wallpaper (or mostly black).

I've managed to probably triple my battery life now with these few tweaks. And didn't have to buy new battery to do it.

Or at least double it.....

Hey Allfornaught...the forum is here to express what is happening in our situation. I don't know what you saw in your settings in 2.1, but when I went to Settings>Account & Sync, I had Background sync check mark for On/Off and Auto-Synce check mark for On/Off. The same setting is in 2.2. In 2.1 I kept both of thess Off. In 2.2 I also turned them off, but when I used Market, an alert pops up that say I have to have Background checked On. This is called a difference. I did not have to have it on to use the Market in 2.1; I have to have it on to use the Market in 2.2 While I understand your comment the the software for the OTA is the same for all of us - there can be difference in our devices. There are build levels - some manufacturing chip that can be different. Are you aware that one of the prior OTA would not take for a particular build of a Fascinate? It affected about 10,000 units. If you had one of those models it had to be replaced. Our devices are not all exact clones. My and others that are experienceing the battery drain may have a different build level of a device. I had a great battery life on 2.1 - Sync off, display on Auto, turn on/off wifi, bluetooth, GPS as needed to conserve battery. When I updated to 2.2 and still using the same conserving settings, including the new Moble Data On/Off, my battery life went to horrible. I am just trying to find out what may be causing it - finding what was different from 2.1 to 2.2. So far, I have noticed that my display percentage use is huge - even when I do not have the device on and minimal usage and I have it set to Auto; and that that when I turn Background Data to On, my battery drains at a faster pace, even without heavy use. I always run my battery down to the red flashing its below 5% and then charged up from there. I do not keep it (as a rule) charging overnight (can not be perfect, it has happened but rarely! lol). I do not have my Facebook autosyncing; I do not have my email autosyncing; I have ONE weather widget that will update every 3 hours. My usage should hardly be taxing my battery.

I agree. It's here to help. So maybe you could post something less sarcastic, and more constructive than "Hmmm-ing" every sentence.

I agree - it's a difference. But what I said is plain fact: the data on/off always ran in the background on 2.1, period. 'In. The. Background.' Why else would the market suddenly require it to be on? So with 2.2 you have the option to disable it entirely - or leave it on.
It doesn't do anything when data is turned off anyhow.

I leave it on: and my battery life speaks for itself. So it's obviously a non-issue.

If their were any hardware changes, the tech blogs would have been all over it. Find a link, otherwise I'm in doubt.

To KeepitReal - I hate to ask the same question over and over, but I can't see where it was answered. I think you've done the reset, but have you tried steps to recalibrate the battery? I'm wondering if that will help. It requires some time on your part as the battery has to be completely without charge , but could be worth it. I did that AND the reset.

I believe I posted steps I used, so search the forums. (don't want to retype).

Well that sucks if you still haven't experienced improved battery life. Naturally I don't get 28 hours if I play a lot, but neither is it draining when NOT in use. Juice defender ultimate has been my life saver as I can set it to not have data on when I'm using my screen, unless in scheduled stuff. Have you tried that or the autokiller memory optimizer?
Or maybe a new battery...?
Sorry running out of ideas

My Fascinate battery experience

I bought my Fascinate 10 days before the iPhone release. I have had battery problems ever since. I have been into my Verizon store six times. They have:
1.replaced the battery, with no difference.
2.moved Active Apps to my home page so I could track when pgms. are running. I end all apps the minute I'm done with them.
4.Re-set to factory
3.Checked to see that all my settings are properly set
4.I had them remove any non-standard apps and I only had a couple including Angry Birds and Expensify
5. checked to make sure there aren't things running in the background that I can't see, I had them remove anything I didn't need but seems like they were all things the fascinate needed.

I have WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS turned off. I use bluetooth occasionally to transfer a photo or two but then turn it off.

One night I had a fully charged battery, set my alarm and 8 hours later the battery was too weak to ring

Then Verizon store people told me that it isn't unusual to have to charge the fascinate everyday. Yes, but I don't expect to have to charge it "within" a day, like when I leave at 8 a.m. I don't expect it to be practically dead when I get home at 5. They asked if I didn't have a car charger. I said of course I do but I don't expect to be charging the phone every time I'm not using it. Makes it a little inconvenient for a cell phone that should be on my person at all times.

I'm having an iPhone delivered today and will try it out for 14 days. If the battery isn't any better my next option is to have them send me a new Fascinate, which they are willing to do.

BTW, I am in the process of trying Lionz fix.

This is crazy. I LOVE this phone with the exception of the battery life which is a huge issue. But, it would be really nice to actually be able to use some of the nice Fascinate features.
