I got the second screen to check network location. At least after logging back into google I had 2 screens I usually just hit next or finish and didn't read them though.

Sent from somewhere...

Ah ok. Well whatever the third box is, it isn't present on Miui and IS present on every other ROM I've ever tried. I thought that might be a contributing factor to the problem.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

I might be wrong but i think the third box you are talking about is the one that asked you if you wanted your apps to be reinstalled or whatever....i noticed that it wasnt there as well

What?!?!?

No, he's talking about the dialog box; and besides, I've never even seen a box in any ROM that asks you if you want your apps reinstalled...

Hey guys, everyone shoud go into Settings - Location and Security settings and check or uncheck then recheck the box that says use wireless networks, it's at the very top of the menu. I'm not saying this is the solution, but it most likeley is the root of the problem. Also, before flashing back to previous builds. Try wiping data/cache. You can now do so with out any ill effect. Going into application settings and clearing lancher data may fix the problem as well. I will report back in a few hours when people wake up,and try what I suggested.

What apps are you guys using to verify network location isnt working?

When does the launcher fc?

Did you try rebooting?

Did you try checking the use wireless netowrks box?

Did you wipe/data cache?

News and Weather Widget wont find location. With gps off maps won't pick up location either, usually if you have gps off it will locate you to the nearest cell tower.

I get a FC with the launcher on reboot and an occasional FC every now and then. Nothing crazy though.

Launcher fc on reboot is normal for MIUI at the moment but location should be working. I will say that I've never (and I mean I check daily) had news and weather find my location. Mine is working flawlessly after changing the setting. I didn't have wit checked either, as it doesn't be default.

Yeah the launcher FCs every time that I reboot as well. It FCs twice before the phone fully starts up.

I am also still getting google services framework FCs all the time too.

Holy crap, the News/Weather widget is picking up my location without me putting in my zip. YAY!!!!

This is from the op, from now on read the entire thing before you post.

After you boot MIUI and before you do anything at all. Go right into settings - Applications - Manage Applications - All - Scroll to Contacts and select, force stop - Contact Storage and select Clear Data - Contact Sync Adapter, select force stop.... Scroll to Google Services Framework, select force stop then clear data.

If you skip this step you will get google services fc's all day.

I have used news and weather daily for months now and it always picks up my location. As does Maps without GPS on but it's still not picking it up after toggling all the settings. We'll see, maybe I should try a fresh wipe again and reflash 3.1. I came from 3.0 to 3.1 without a wipe. Do you think that could be the issue? I know you said we wouldn't have to wipe though.

It could be an app you have installed too. Like I said, I've never got it to work but for some reason (after toggling the use wireless location and rebooting) it worked.
