Do you get random reboots?

Is it doing this without any apps installed? Have you tried it in safe mode?

What would be the point? I will not run a phone in safe mode or with no apps. I did the hard reset and format. So many people have the same issue with all different apps and settings. The problem is os related.

I have no desire to cripple my phone to keep it from rebooting. If I want that I can go back to an iphone...

Good idea... don't load any extra apps and see how things are. Also take out your sd card and see how things go. If you've done a reset and formatted the card it's probably an app or a bad sd card.

I know it is frustrating trying to figure out what is causing the issue, but with a little hard work I'm sure it will get figured out.

I know you will not run it in safe mode forever. It's to narrow down the possible culprits-a buggy app, oem or otherwise. Get it stable, then add apps slowly until you find the bad one. If it reboots in safe mode you know for sure it's time to take it back.

You keep saying its operating system related... how can that be when 99 percent of us have the same os running flawlessly?

The real point of what we are suggesting is called "trouble shooting". At some point you will find what is causing the trouble.

But it's your thread and you are convinced it is the operating system. You should contact google... however that doesn't explain how the majority of us don't have problems. Or when we did we fixed it.

Omg.... I reread your first post. It says you are overclocked.

Try this... remove the overclock and see how it works..... lol

My phone random reboots also when I overclock with jrummys app. I can't believe I missed that.

Lol.... problem solved!

Lol.... problem solved!

Well, not exactly. Mine isn't overclocked. No mods. No task killers. Nothing removed. I've done factory resets several times, I've reformatted the sd card, and I've run the phone for over a day 100% stock 2.2.1 without installing any apps whatsoever. And I still got the random reboots with that.

I never used to get them before the latest update. Something about that update is not interacting well with something else on the phone. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't appear to be anything I've installed.

As I've said before, it happens randomly, but it will occur most often when pressing the power button to turn the screen on or off and when turning the phone to the side for an orientation switch.

Mine often reboots when I connect to a computer via USB. Now that Verizon will be offering the iPhone, I might go back to that. As much as I like the Droid, the iPhone never gave me any problems. The X often refuses to work as a phone, and connecting to a computer will sometimes reboot it.

Since it Motorola and Android, I don't think that would help. If this X doesn't get it's act together soon, I'm going to get an iPhone when VZ offers them.

The thunderbolt is an HTC phone.

But before you downgrade to an iphone why not have someone nearby help you with your phone. I would even help you if you were desperate.

I understand all you want is your phone to work which is reasonable.

I get these random reboots everytime I connect my Stock X via usb to a pc. I have tried everything from removing suspected apps . I even called vzw to see what they had to say and all I got was the tpical "we've never seen that before". They suggested a factory reset and the issue did not go away.

If your rooted try downloading the 4 zip files for the latest update, reboot into recovery and applying them. If you did the ota something may have been messed up with the download that the zip files could fix.

Just chiming in - I've been getting random reboots since the last update as well.

Stock OTA. I'm now rooted (wasn't during the OTA), and running SetCPU, but only for some powersaving settings. No overclock. Reboots occur when none of those settings would be in effect anyway (<20% batt, or high temps, etc).

Had reboots while running LauncherPro, so I removed it, and went back to stock. Still get reboots.

Did a factory reset, and reformat of the SD card. Still get reboots, and at the same rate. Even before reapplying root, SetCPU, most apps.

I've more or less given up. Hoping an OS update will fix it. If not, I'll ride it out until I'm due for a phone upgrade.

If your phone truly is set to bone stock, no apps, after a master reset and it reboots, take it back. You can also try safe mode while stock and see if it reboots-if it does there is no helping it.
