I just started to experience a problem of Droid randomly selecting anything, and everything, calling people, and even texting. It reminded me of when a key is stuck on a computer keyboard, but like all the keys in this instance..... However, I hardly never use the slide keyboard, and everything looked fine.

BUT, upon real close inspection of the very edges of the screen where the metal forms around the glass, looked like there was "wax or some filmy" glaze...

I took a small paperclip and bent it to use the point and a tissue down that edge..... and it WORKED! No more mysterious random keystrokes.

I don't know exactly how the Droid screen accepts input, but hope this works for someone else having same problem.

it does seem to have worked for me as well, at least my swype paths seem to be smoother. I'll have to see if it did anything about the jerkiness while plugged in later.

When I first got my Droid1 I had all kinds of glitches and problems. I figured out how to do a factory data reset and that helped for a short time. Soon I would be having glitches again.

This went on until I rooted my phone and loaded a custom rom. From that point on I never had a problem again. Because of my experience I feel my issues were software related. Thank goodness the D1 had the ability to flash custom Roms.

Since I got my D2 and my X I have never had any of those strange glitches like I did on my D1.

Is there a way to replace the lcd or digitizer to repair this problem? I have one that is doing this. My friend had it and reported it lost. I just want to use it as a personal media device. I have found where I can buy new lcd's and digitizers, but didn't want to fork out the dough if it was in vain.

One out of two phones possessed

My wife was complaining about her phone. I thought it was operator error until I witnessed the "possession" myself. I cleaned the screen (she uses a lot of hand lotion) and did a factory reset, but it's still intermittently acting up (stock all the way). I'll try the new battery and cleaning the gap between the edges and metal tonight and let you know if it helps.

I tried removing the battery for over an hour, replacing it with a different battery, doing a SD card format and a factory reset, but am still having issues. It hasn't gone "possessed" yet, but most touch functions are unusable. I'm a little suspect of the factory reset, since when I turned it back on it came up with a picture that my wife was using for her desktop. I wonder if there are any other files or settings that could be causing this problem that are not getting erased by the factory reset.

Have you ever done an sbf before?

have two droids bought at same time, mine has had no issues except for when its really humid outside and its in my pocket. Pull it out and try to use it and it does all of the above. set it down inside the house and let it return to more proper environment and the phone doesn't do anything out of the ordinary. My friends which was bought about the same time has randomly without explanation done crazy things, such as opening up programs opening up phone and dialing people open up internet and start typing. way to much to list and it doesn't matter what environment its in or if full battery or hot or cold. but what I do notice is during its seizure or whatever you want to call it, its really hard to press or do anything while its "doing its thing"...lol

my Droid 1 is "possessed" as well

I have an unrooted, Droid 1 that is also possessed. I originally thought it was because I had used an alcohol wipe to wipe the screen clean.

I am also using all original Motorola accessories: wall charger, and cradle charger- and car charger.

I called Verizon yesterday. Unfortunately, I've had the phone 13 months, so I was told my warranty expired. I also did not get the insurance when I bought it.

Verizon offered to help me upgrade- or replace with a pre-owned phone. Both options I'm not sure I want to do.

I'm upset that I've invested in the phone so quickly after it came out- all the accessories and leather cases- and now have no option but to buy a new phone.

Verizon walked me through a factory reset- and it didn't seem to take. All my downloaded apps were still on the phone- and settings that I had customized (wallpaper and widgets) etc.

I wish Google, Verizon or Motorola could assist further. I am now debating- if I want another Droid- or even contemplating the iPhone...

I'm very frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent.

Possible Fix but dont blame me if you break your phone

Original Droid.

I had this problem occur twice. The first time it went away on it's own. the second time it was persistent and rendered the phone useless. I decided it was a big piece of crap and moved to replace it.

Note I never modified the phone or used a non oem charger.

I noticed to that the commands being 'ghosted' were in the same area of the screen. This leads me to think hardware issue. I cleaned the screen and it seemed to help momentarily but to no avail. I noticed too that the problem occurred moments after turning it on. So there were a few seconds of normal screen to play with.

Anyway as I was talking to the secretary to order a new phone at work and I demonstrated the problem to her. Then I tossed the phone in the air and stomped on it with my foot. The problem went away.. hmmmm what could it be?

My layman theory is somewhere in the phone there are tiny transistors sending commands from the touch screen to the cpu. I think some dust got in there causing some static electricity which shorted out the connectors thereby causing some areas of the screen to constantly send a 'touch' signal. The vibration from dropping probably dislodged said dust. If this is true, then poor QC on Motorola part. So much for six sigma.

Anyway it's working fine now. Maybe another way to clean the dust is appropriate but its worth a try if your throwing the phone out anyway.

Thoughts?

Update: The problem came back after a couple of hours. Ordered a new phone (HTC Thunderbolt 4G) today through Verizon website. That Droid was probably the worst reliable phone since my Radioshack phone from ~1992. I still take Google's OS over Apple any day. Good luck

My phone acted crazy for about 2 days before the touch sensors on one side of my screen died for good. At least for me it was 100% hardware issue with dying sensors.

It was so bad at times I was unable to even get into my phone because of the random touch events being fired off when I was trying to enter my pin. I flashed back to stock non rooted and still had the issue. Got it replaced and restored the "new" refurbed phone to my last rom backup and haven't had the issue again.

The problem started out slight, som inadvertant touch events randomly, and progressed to a couple of events a second before the sensors completely stopped working.

Only time I have anything crazy is when charging when I'm hooked up to eclipse with adb and all I usually have to unplug my phone to even use my phone for anything whether it be the app I'm working on root explorer etc
