Droid 2 Global Unlock & foreign SIM?

well, then im screwed... my phone is completely locked and verizon doesn't seem like they'll help anytime soon...

feels like crap that i have to be a customer of them for like 2 or 6 months before they can help me....

Is there any way to force the SIM NETWORK UNLOCK screen to appear, I don't know if it's a general Liberty problem, but my rooted D2G won't show the screen, even with a foreign sim in it..
I'd hate to have to unroot it, just to input the code.

AFAIK it is Liberty problem (and not only Liberty). You will need to flash stock to bring unlock screen up.

I also got pretty tired of making this phone work. In fact, I got kinda tired of Motorola all together (i also have a Milestone, cuz I can't rely on D2G as my main phone). I think i will just sell both and get an open phone like Nexus S to forget about all this misery. :( Anyway, the D2G works fine on CDMA after my local carrier flashed it. The phone doesn't even think it's roaming and everything works fine. Which for me raises the question,- can the GSM portion of the phone be flashed as well? Flashed not to remove the sim lock but the flashed to a different operator ID so the phone remains locked but accepts the sim cards from operators we want. Anyway, I doubt any of the developers are actively involved with this phone, but I will leave it as a thought.

Ummm isn't Liberty for the D2 and not the D2g? I haven't kept up on Jrummy's stuff as of recent fyi, but I thought he only worked on X and D2 ROMs.
Then I guess you haven't heard of Team Get~R~Done D2G Rom-er

Nope that I hadn't. thanks for hte info tho have a few friends who may find it handy as I already sold my D2g. To many devices sitting around and I didn't have a need for it seeing as I have a Droid PRO that I like much better and it is fully unlocked for use on any network/carrier.

I don't know for sure, but if you could flash GSM easily, that would be pretty similar to making SIM locks useless (to use SIM of carrier X, just flash to X. THen when you want to use SIM Y, flash to Y). Of course, that's not "proof" that it can't be done!

Well, I thought if CDMA part of it can be flashed, then the same might apply for GSM. I mean, unless the lock system is a relatively big piece of software, so some of it might be stored in the phone's memory and hence be tempered with.

BUT they could also store it entirely in the locked down bootloader, which would explain why they lock down the boot loaders. :D

zero7404, you probably didn't read the post.
D2G has AT&T and T-Mobile blacklisted; however, even if you unlock them for $100 by contacting TBH, it doesn't mean it won't need a SIM unlock.
The post you were replying to, however, is related purely to that unlock. Not to “US carriers not working with an unlocked D2G”.

FYI the SIM need to be ulocked before TBH can actually unlock the GSM bands for use in the states.

As for the programming it is part of the radio software with is 2 separate parts and can really not be messed with very easily without some serious internal Moto software.

misinformed bcause i didnt read the whole thread ... my fault.

but sim unlocking would be a basic task for tbh proir to band unlock

TBH does not unlock Droid 2 Global SIM locks, afaik. It is impossible as of now; the only way is to use a correct unlock code provided by either Motorola (via various eBay/etc unlock code sellers) or Verizon Wireless.

hi, we are having major problems with using our droid2 global overseas. The procedure to unlock the phone just doesn't work and nobody, including the foreign sim card company knows how to fix it. it does not find the foreign network. i hope you have been successful?

Folks,

I bought an international GSM card from OneSimCard (looks like they use Estonian phone numbers). They partner with GSM providers in various countries (T-Mobile and AT&T in the US).

I'm a long-time Verizon customer and I just unlocked my D2G by getting a code from the VZW global support. After typing in the unlock code I got a message "Unlock successful".

After rebooting the network name was displayed as "T-Mobile | 1 Sim Card", however no networks were found so I don't get any signal bars. Search for available networks in the settings menu showed no networks available. Is this because VZW blocks the US GSM carriers? Since I do see that the phone is unlocked can I assume the phone will work when I actually go overseas?

Thanks!:icon_eek:
