Droid 2 Global Unlock & foreign SIM?

I have a D2G that I am using in France (I'm from the US), I have a foreign SIM that is working (SIM is unlocked via Verizon), but I can't get 3G no matter what I try.
I think that my problem is my Baseband ( pre.cjk { font-family: "DejaVu Sans",monospace; }p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; N_01.48.05R) . When going in to test mode--> Select Radio Mode --> Set GSM/UMTS band, the only option is "USA Band". There are no other options!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading/trying for at least 10 days now. Thanks in advance!

Hey pjrech, I am currently in France with my previously locked Verizon Droid 2 Global and I just called Verizon's Global Support at (800) 711-8300 and they gave me the code. (The phone will automatically ask for the code when you put the sim in, but you probably already know that).

Now I have an unlocked phone that is using the French system Orange.

U need to prove dat u r verizon customers (billing /acount details) then they might gv u d code.
Sometime they will gv u "60days minimum subscription bs..."

I had a Verizone store rep LIE and tell me that I had to call Motorola for the unlock code which is WRONG

Call the Verizon Global Help line and get the unlock code. Insert a foreign sim and ur gtg

What kind of data does Verizon request from someone willing to unlock their Droid 2 Global?

I'm planning to purchase a Droid 2 Global from eBay, and I have a friend who is a long time user of Verizon.

On some other forum, I saw mentions that Verizon asks for the name of the person who purchased the phone, their driver's license number, etc., and this kind of puts me off.

Basically, I need the phone to function in Japanese (Softbank) and European (Vodafone, Megafon) GSM networks. 3G support would be much appreciated, as well (using 1900/2100MHz).

eBay has offers that generally fall into three categories:
  1. Mint condition, original box or unpacked (locked)
  2. Unlocked
  3. Bad ESN (sometimes also "Unlocked", but never with any warranty of any kind)

As I understand, "Bad ESN" phones won't work in Verizon's network (and probably any other NA CDMA network). Can they still be unlocked via a call to Verizon? Or is purchasing a "Bad ESN" phone a generally bad idea?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Please excuse my bad English.

I've been reading through this thread but I am unfamiliar with alot of the abbreviations and terminology i.e.droid newbie.. here is what i am trying to find out:

if I buy a droid 2 global for my girlfriend and have it for 60 days, I can get the unlock code from vzw that allows her to put in a foreign carrier sim to use when she goes to china, correct? and will data/internet/text still work on the chinese network? thanks for the help

Hi!

I consider myself a not newbie with ROM and flashes at all... but, refering Android and Linux experience, I'm a newbie.

So let me ask something to the experts guys from here.

Is there a hardware diference between Droid2 Global bought from Verizon and Droid2 Global bought direct from Motorola?

If not, we can compare two original ROMs to determine what the hell diference between this models...

If yes, maybe we can find a way to hack the hardware.

Both situation can help us find a way to unlock this cell phone.

Another question: Is there a way to create an Android application that may type the SIM unlock code in sequence until find a working code?

Tks guys

Well I'm quite experienced in Linux, and had played a lot with the LG EVE (I've bricked it and unbricked it many times now).. and my approach (and doubt actually) is...

how/why none of the "unlocked" D2G owners have done a ROM backup, upload it and then let us load that ROM, and see if it works...

just a crazy idea maybe
