Droid 2 Global Unlock & foreign SIM?

Because the state of the SIM lock is not flashed.

And no, you cannot create an "Android application" that will bruteforce the unlock code. If only due to the limit on the amount of unlock attempts made.

Flashing to other Network

Hello Friends,
This is my first post on this forum.
I purchased this great phone off Ebay and I am unable to unlock it. The guy from whom i purchased is not responding to my requests for the unlock code from Verizon. (I am from India).
I have contacted one of the CDMA operators here and they are willing to flash my mobiloe to their network. My question is will this also unlock the GSM network?

This phone can be temperamental. Unless the guy has flashed a lot of the same phones as yours before, I don't suggest you let him. Because you are not a Verizon customer, and you never will be, they may give you the unlock code if you contact them.

They won't, I've been having the same problem and spent this last week or so trying to get Verizon to give me some kind of help.
They won't help you out with unlock codes unless you are a Verizon Customer for at least 2 months. One of the reps actually told me it was something like 8 months and my best shot at trying to unlock it was registering with Verizon and stick with them for 8 months.... :S

This being said, I got some unlock codes from Motorola, but apparently Verzion has changed them, so they won't work 50% of the times.

I do have a question tho, is there a way to root the D2G and unlocking it from there? or how does flashing work for this purpose? (I'm a big droid n00b)

No. You can root, flash and rom all you want. It wont do anything for unlocking it. I can get a code from Verizon probably, but will it work for a phone other than mine?

Also, I forgot to mention, mufazzal, you have to be in the US to unlock it initially. It will not unlock when not in a Verizon local network. You could probably send it to one of us here that can get a code and unlock it for you and send it back over there...if you were willing to do that

You can get a code from Verizon, as long as you tell them the IMEI number of the device you want to unlock and the carrier.
For example, if you tell them "im in france, can't get signal here, my IMEI number is xxxxxx and the carrier the SIM card is from is Orangefr or "frenchyfrenchphones"" they should be able to unlock it to you.

According to them, you can also unlock it outside the US, since all you need to activate it really is some signal.

If you really want to help me pls PM :)

As far as I know, as long as you call Verizon giving them the IMEI number of your phone (doesn't matter if you actually have it in hand or not, but you MUST be a Verizon customer) and the carrier you're trying to use it on, you can get the unlock code, but they need to check your account info first.

So technically yes, you can get different unlock codes for different phones, but each code is specific for each device, since the codes are generated based on your phone's IMEI number.

If anyone is willing to help get these codes lemme know :P i'm just about willing to do anything to get this phone to work, im calling everyone i know in the US (not many ppl since im from Argentina) to see if they have Verizon lol...

cost 23 Euro now ...

Question is, is it consistent, does it unlock ALL Droid 2 Globals or only those you can unlock for $5.
23 Euro is totally fine if it unlocks the 'unlockable' ones IMO. But my guess is it does not... I would love to be proven wrong.

Is there any way to force the SIM NETWORK UNLOCK screen to appear, I don't know if it's a general Liberty problem, but my rooted D2G won't show the screen, even with a foreign sim in it..
I'd hate to have to unroot it, just to input the code.

Ummm isn't Liberty for the D2 and not the D2g? I haven't kept up on Jrummy's stuff as of recent fyi, but I thought he only worked on X and D2 ROMs. If so that is your problem and you will never get it to display seeing as you are running a D2 ROM and not a D2g ROM so there is things missing from the device.

Does rooting your phone and flashing some roms help with trying to unlock it?

I saw some roms that said they might bring up the subsidy code prompt, so idk...

anyone knows?
