Droid update this morning

I manually updated in Dec and received no 'patch' in January.

Martin, thanks for the response.

Anybody out there with the same situation?

I'm hoping I just haven't received the patch yet because it hasn't been pushed to me, and not because I was impatient and rooted earlier.

Any details from anybody would be great.

Has anybody that manually updated back in December received this current OTA patch that is necessary for the final 2.1 update?

I have not received this intermediate patch yet and am paranoid.

As of this moment there is nothing "necessary" in order to receive 2.1 when it comes out.

Theres far too much inaccurate information floating about... rumor, speculation and innuendo are fun but when people start stating things as FACT when they have no proof it makes for lots of confused people.

I manually installed 2.0.1, and have not recieved the new patch. However, my brother did not manually install and he has not recieved the patch either.

I don't think there is a link.

TMI is right. 2.1 will come to your phone when ready... don't worry about a 'patch'.

You could be doing the same thing unless you "know" the info they are saying is inaccurate?

I agree when you don't know, its human nature to brainstorm and "speculate" to try and trip across the answer.
Some of the stuff I've posted came from our Mod who is in direct communication with Vrzn.

The patch apparenty "is" needed before 2.1 can be applied.

Fact is NOBODY knows for sure.. however the 60+MB mystery file known as "update.zip" has been confirmed to contain nothing more than the exact same build data and kernel than our handsets were upgraded to back in December. The ONLY difference in that package is that it contains Facebook 1.1.2.

What this leads me to believe is that somebody within VZW accidentily pushed a button and sent out this installation package to a very small number of users during a very limited window of time.

They recompiled the stock installation package when the FB 1.1.2 app was released since it is a standard application on our devices.


To my 'puter geek mind this makes FAR more sense than it somehow having any effect on the pending 2.1 release.

However, we saw how an update was rolled out for the Dec 11th update... and if 1 person received the patch, then that patch, in theory, should be rolled out as the 2.0.1 update was. It hasn't been. Only a few people have received it and it has not been continuous. A few received and then it stops? This isn't how they rolled out the first update.

My guess would be that the 'patch' will be lumped with the 2.1 update. I can't see VZW doing 4-5 days of 'patch' updates and then rolling into another 4-5 days of 2.1 updates.

Thats about the size of it... all we can do is speculate without someone on the inside to give us more. Miami is the only person I know who knows more than mere speculation.
Of course his source could be wrong or they could simply change the game plan from within... or it has been suggested.... maybe someone "tripped" over the switch and a unneeded patch was sent before they caught it and turned it off......

It obvious Miami is limited to what he does know and can much he can share too.
I can only speculate why he said the update was necessary and I've done so already and so I'll do so again... maybe 2.0.1 had undocumented differences between the leaked file verses the OTA file and or maybe those who have rooted and or have "all of us go into this boat" applied multiple apps and uninstalled etc, it could be that they want a virgin platform to install upon to insure a smooth transition and so it will perform as expected?

There is still the element of the multiple apps we all have installed but at least the core O.S. will be uncorrupted.

It makes me wonder when some folks complain of constant lags and FCs while others have none.

It would be good if they would just release the info so we don't have to speculate.... it will be confusing to many if they get an update and then another....its confusing enough for us here on the forum... let alone the normal layperson.....

On the other hand, maybe they will just shrug their shoulders and move on... Maybe I"m reading more into this.

I've never rooted and am not versed but why couldn't you "manually" install 2.0.1 again?... if it goes, shouldn't you be in the same boat then as many of us who did the manual update?

I've never rooted and am not versed but why couldn't you "manually" install 2.0.1 again?... if it goes, shouldn't you be in the same boat then as many of us who did the manual update?

2.0.1 should receive the OTA by default... the only way to remove the OTA is to root your device.... so since it's not rooted, I can't imagine the OTA being disabled

It could be that your phone didn't get it because it was a certain type of phone...but I can't tell since you put your phone number instead of your phone type
