Droid X sync with Outlook

Hi,

The point here is that we all know that you can sync to Outlook using Google's preferred method, but that's not what we want to do or are asking for.

So just to be clear, these are two separate issues.

What we want is to be able to sync to Outlook via a USB port directly, circumventing Google entirely.

We don't want to rely on G-mail, or uploading our calendar to the web, etc.

Maybe no one that can influence the powers to be monitor these forums, which means that we are all just having a nice conversation and nothing will come of it??

I hope not :-)

I really like this phone, and I use google for a lot of things but...I do certain scheduling tasks at work that I don't think my company would like out in the ether. Is there a calendar I can use that won't automatically sync the information with google?

A search of the market shows there are all kinds of calendars available, but I'm not sure which one wouldn't sync with Google Calendar. You may have to try a little experimenting or go ahead and post this question in the apps area.

Maybe it's already been mentioned, but Missing Sync for Outlook, doesn't sync the Outlook Calendar to GCalendar to DroidX, it's a direct sync. I just took a look at my GCalendar and it's empty.

You're right but the hangup is it cost $40 for something that most other OS systems have built in. Just my 2Cents.

"If you don't want wireless syncing you can use Companionlink USB on your PC (Takes place of Activesync) and DejaOffice on your phone to give that Outlook Mobile experience. Only took me a few hours to set the whole thing up and I am a total Android novice. "

I agree with this quote from an earlier post in this thread. I am using companionlink usb and my Calendar, Contacts and Tasks sync very nicely. Do ur research, and read the directions and Help info. $40 and it's worth it. It is wired but it works nicely.

Is the only reason you are using the USB version for Dejaoffice? I have never heard of that.

The Companionlink version that syncs Outlook with Gmail works fine. It does calendar, contacts and tasks. and of course GMAIL will sync with your phone. so you dont need any wires. Again. Not sure about DejaOffice. (i set this up on my wifes phone in about 15 minutes. (only did the 14 day trial to start).

The point that some are missing is there are many Outlook users that DO NOT want to use Gmail. We simply want the ability to direct sync our phone and PC, no third party server and we don't have the enterprise server to use as a conduit since most of us that have the issue are not corporate. This method has been available on virtually every incarnation of smart phone until the Android.

Just to be clear. The USB Companion link with DejaOffice does NOT sync with google at all. Nor exchange nor any other server in the cloud. It is just your phone and your PC. It is as near a replacement for Outlook Mobile and Activesync to PC Outlook as it gets.

I am willing to give Companion link a try. I also do NOT want to sync my personal appointments to google. I dont understand why other Outlook sync apps have not been developed for this phone.

The reviews that I have read are not great, and I remember reading that companion link stored some of the PIM data on the SD card which I dont like due to security issues.

If you are using CL can you confirm that it works well, syncs with no errors or duplicated appts/tasks, and has a good user interface on the phone? Can you display calendar events + tasks on the same screen? Are the fonts large enough and readable on the phone?

Can you also confirm that NO data is stored on the SD card, can you remove the sd card and still access your PIM/calendar data?

Thanks

Your poor wife.....lol... Hey, I don't know where everything is stored...it's not in THE CLOUD. Its in ur phone. Its a very functional form of Outlook. Of course, it's not everything Outlook offers. I did get some duplicates on my Calendar on my first sync...I straightened it up but now can't remember what I did. There was a combo category of my email and US Holidays. If you have more than one category for an item, the category list will contain EVERY category combination you have.......therefore, I would suggest limiting categories to one per item. Try it out, read their help material. Its good enough for me....and I've used Outlook from its infancy.

I haven't tested the sync capability yet, as I'm still deciding between the Companion Link/DejaOffice combo and The Missing Sync/Fliq Calendar combo.

DejaOffice has categories and comes with a complete suite like MS Office, but the calendar is very ugly and poorly laid out... very bad design and use of RealEstate.

On the other hand, Fliq Calendar is much better designed, clean, easy to see and use, but doesn't have categories or a search function.

I have read issues on both application solutions, but again haven't tried to sync yet.

It is amazing that there isn't a better solution... of course the most expensive solution is only $40, so there isn't a lot of financial incentive to develop an app to do this stuff :-(
