Etna is the scrapped version of the bionic. Who says that anything from that design was carried over.

It's pretty fun to go over to twitter and search "Droid Bionic" and watch all the posts with "New Leaked Pictures" that were from months ago or the 3 or 4 posts I saw yesterday proclaiming that newly leaked screen shots support an August 4th release... :huh: Oh, and the newest amusing trend are the people who post links to the pictures and manuals from the FCC with claims that the confidentiality agreement "accidentally expired" or they "accidentally let the info" out and no one saw it coming...

They're ALL built the same people. 2 faces, 1 screen, camera on the back. Do any of you purchase a phone then a month later think to yourself "my phone is sexy"? Personally, i buy a smartphone for productivity, not appearance. If the bionic performs well in regard to power and battery life it will be a winner to me. It has features that to this point other LTE phones do not, so why compare it to the SGII or any other 3G phone? There's no point in making those comparisons.

I agree with sonicxtacy02. The point I think he's trying to make is that some people are going overboard with how a phone looks. They nitpick the dumbest things. They'll say that the Bionic meets all their needs and then say something stupid like the corners aren't round enough or there is a "ugly lip" at the bottom of the phone so they'll wait for 3 more months for a different phone. And they when they buy their sexy new phone they'll slap a case on it and lose all the aesthetics they were crying for in the first place.

I'm not saying I'd be thrilled with with chipped paint and rust spots on my phone but I'm not waiting an extra 3 months just because a phone doesn't have enough chrome accents on it. If a phone isn't sexy enough for you then my advice would be to put a long blond wig on it and hot glue a pair plastic of boobs on it. There problem solved.

I agree when stated like that, but to lead off with "i cannot believe that a bunch of grown men ... give two craps about how a phone LOOKS" isn't conveying that point of view.

I probably give 5 craps out of 10 what my phone LOOKS like... that old cliche of "form meets function."

that analogy almost makes sense... but it would go more like this. Say i needed a crossover vehicle with the cargo room, seat configuration, and capabilities of an Aztec but didn't like the looks so I bought a 3 Series beamer cause its edges are rounder and its thinner. That's more like comparing the bionic (read: LTE, my requirement) to the SG2 (read: 3g, but looks like a skinny brick instead of a fat one)

PS - I use the BWM crossover because it has not been confirmed that the GSII will not be LTE... and the fact that a Galaxy phone with LTE has just been confirmed, while not for here in the US, it has proven that they can in fact fit an LTE radio in a Galaxy class phone.

First off this thread has gotten ridiculous. Second off just because we're guys doesn't mean we shouldn't care about appearance. When I go out at night I don't wear sweatpants and a hoodie looking like a scrub straight out of bed, that's just stupid. We are entitled to think this phone is ugly or not and yes we can even base our decision on what we buy off of that fact. It's just ridiculous to think because we're men we should just buy ugly as crap phones and "just deal with it". I am not saying we need to wait around for the most amazing looking phone but the physical appearance of a phone is absolutely a factor in the decision to buy or not.

I'm a guy and I care a hell of a lot about what my phone looks like. I'm spending $300 on it and I'll be using it for 2 years. It's one important factor of many.

As far as looks....some call the Motorola Droid line ugly. It doesnt phase me if its what I want.

I get the point and go by the same rule that was bought up: function over form. If it was all about looks....I think we all might have iPhones 4's...

Now....would I choose phone A over phone B just cuz of the looks? Would the looks be a deal breaker?

Not in a million years for me. If the uglier phone does what I want, so be it.

Some ppl do take everything in when buying things. Some folks just place looks up on their list of wants, thats all. Me....I will use my feet as an example. I will probably rock New Balance for the rest of my life cuz they are so comfortable.

Cant stand Nike's. Reebok's are ok...but I love me some New Balance. They're not as flashy as some Nike's are, but they work for me.

The only phone I've seen that I wouldn't buy because of looks its the charge. That point on the bottom is good awful. The bionic to me looks great. If you like the looks of other motorola droids then you will like the bionic. Not much different.
