Froyo Release Thread

Very nice guys ...

You know what this means for us non rooters, there isnt many excuses why Froyo will not run on the Droid, if a ROM can be made, then a full release cant be that far away, just at the speed of moto/VZ (Gaak!, that was a contradiction of epic proportions eh? )

I'll be waiting for a non root installable version once they figure out the kernal thing.

But you guys enjoy!

For people who's phone is slow after update... activate setcpu and overclock to 800 (top end on this Kernel) and the phone flies

pardon my ignorance, but what exactly would be in the kernel that would give away the original source? Just curious. And what would stop us from say flashing to a different kernel, or is that not the same kernel?

I believe the kernel has a source code that makes it be known where the build was made. So whoever released their kernel could potentially lose their job to the fact that something got leaked for the real build of Froyo for the Droid. Its a good thing they decided to do so.

I understand, I'm not trying to get anyone to lose their job over a rom. so its more like the "base kernel" like the one for the os itself? This is not the same as the kind we can flash for overclocking and such correct?

It is a base kernel but it is a rom with the build of the kernel. That is why you have to flash it with SPRecovery. I believe that with this ROM you can overclock and do whatever but dont hold me to it. I havent flashed this yet because I use the hell out of my wifi in my house. Happy Rooting!

for those that think wifi is disabled, its totally working for me.. maybe it meant wifi tethering? i'm not sure, dont need to try that so maybe someone else can respond

It is disabled. If yours works, then you're not installed correctly.

So if you were to change to another kernel, would wifi then work?

Hey guys im wiping cache can i also Wipe data "factory reset" will that un ROOT me? Or can i go ahead and do that and stay rooted? I just want a fresh install.

I agree, I oc to 800mhz last night and it was good. Do you think a Chevy kernal will work to OC even faster?

I tried a chevy 1.25ghz kernel. The battery meter was always showing empty and phone rebooted every couple of minutes. System also FCed

So shouldn't this out perform phones that were previously OC to 800mhz using 2.1? Why would it be so slow stock? I know you guys used setcpu to OC higher, but this makes no sense? Is this the Google official 2.2 or source code ? Or just moded 2.1 with some 2.2 goodies?

Also it is my understanding that Adobe flash is still missing?

I'm going to do a nandroid and try another kernal, but I doubt it will work.
