Getting a new phone soon, having a hard time making a decision...please help

The D2G seems to have a serious case of needing to be hard reset as soon as you get it. That's what I've been seeing, anyway.

It seems to be working fine now, I think...it froze/locked up two or three times within an hour or two. Also, I bought the bundle and got a case with it, it's a hard plastic kind of case...I was thinking that maybe it was making the phone overheat even more, but I don't know. Like I mentioned earlier, I wasn't really doing anything other than texting two people and opening one application, though. :/

What do you think? Wait it out and see if it does it again, or do the hard reset now (that's a factory reset, right? I think I know where to find that option on the phone...not 100% sure..)

Yes, but if it's working now DON'T do it!

Install temperature monitor free from the market and keep an eye on your temps for a while.

Hey, last night I checked for software updates and I installed the new software onto my phone, you can see what the update/fixes include HERE.

Maybe that will fix it? :/

One side question, I'm not sure if it has done this since the day I bought it or if it started ever since the freezing/locking, but when I press the sleep button on the top of the phone to put it into sleep mode, the light on the screen smoothly dims until it's off. However, when I press the sleep button again to turn the screen back on, it's a bit flickery/jittery... ? I'm not sure if it always did this and now it's bothering me. I -must- be OCD... :p but really, is that normal? it's not like it's flickering abnormally, it just isn't smooth like it is when the screen goes to black when I press the sleep button .

Phone rebooted by itself...

edit: wasn't doing anything when it happened either, I had it locked (pressed button at the top) and it was just laying on my desk..next thing I notice is the Motorola "M" screen when it's booting up..

Sometimes they do that. Have you installed any apps recently?

Yeah, I did a bit of searching and it looks like others are experiencing it too. :/

Last night whenever it was freezing/locking up, it happened when I opened Seesmic so I uninstalled that last night, but I don't know if that application was the culprit or not, it's uninstalled now anyway.

These are my installed apps: Gowalla, Foursquare, Layar, Twitter, The Weather Channel, and Facebook for Android. I installed all of these except two on the first day..Gowalla and Foursquare were installed the day after, but no, I haven't installed any other applications recently.

Why would you want to let everyone who might be stalking you or looking to rob your house know EXACTLY where you're going to be? :)

Try uninstalling every app you've added and run for a few hours to see if you reboot. If not, you know it's one of the apps. Start adding them back one at a time. If the problem suddenly reappears you know what the problem is. If it still reboots when you don't have any apps you know it's the phone and should take it back for a replacement.

lol xD I haven't checked in anywhere, I've just always been curious about those two apps so I decided to check them out and see what stores/businesses/etc. around me that it located with the GPS. ;P I'll probably uninstall them now that you put it that way, haha. :)

Hmm, okay. I guess I'll do that, but again, it only rebooted itself once and I wasn't doing anything at all on it...so eh. It may not even do it again. I'll uninstall them anyway for a little over a day and see if anything goes wrong with the phone.

edit: instead of uninstalling them through the Android Market, I'm going to "Manage Applicatons" and individually going through them and clearing the cache, data, force stopping it and THEN uninstalling...seemed like the best way to clear out all data ?

The data goes when you uninstall, actually, unless I'm totally mistaken based on past experience with reinstalling apps. :) This isn't a Windows box we're dealing with. ;)

It's not that I'm paranoid, really... :D I'm an author; I have to think of these things for potential plots and characters.

Haha. :)

Two more things (I'm just posting questions/concerns as they come to mind :p):

Does the application (game) Need For Speed: Shift (NFS Shift) come pre-installed on Droids, or maybe just the D2G? Because I know I haven't purcahsed any applications, and it's already on my phone...

and a question about the Android Market: when I go to manage applications, I see "Market" as one of the choices...when I go into it, it gives me the same options as the rest of applications, but instead of "uninstall," it reads "uninstall updates" what does that mean, exactly?

It means it's a system app and you can't uninstall it, but you can uninstall the updates pushed to your phone to the version that came pre-installed.
