Getting back to OTA upgrade path, retaining root, 901 installation

I was on 901 for a week and got constant data drops. So after much effort I was able to go back to 893 ota. My phone is great now, not one data drop and battery life is amazing. I got 28hrs with light use. Just my 2c

Will this still work to take me from 5.9.901 (never rooted OTA update) down to a 43v3r rootable firmware and then can i just take the OTA from verizon once im 43v3r rooted or do i need to use the .901 update from the SD card?

Thanks

ok im stuck and need help. i tried the path saver and things went well until i tried to flash the 901 update then i got stuck in fast boot. i have read through several forums and as i understand it (and i may be very wrong) i need to flash the cdt.bin, recovery.img, and boot.img to the phone. this is where im clueless. how exactly does one do this?

furthermore i cannot get into any recovery. my screen says invalid cg version (cg: cdt) twice. any help here would be nothing short of miraculous. thanks.

I had the same exact issue and this fixed it for me. You will also get the cg error when you go from 886 to 893.

after I got this fixed, I flashed system and webtop again. ran this fix, then rooted my phone with the one click method. downloaded the 893 ota and installed it.. i got the cg error again and had to again flash the cdt.bin file. but i've kept 893 and I'm not going to 901 until its ota to my phone and not to some peoples phones. my phone is better than it was when i had cheesecake 893, and 901 sucked on it.

here ya go man: (taken from: Unbrick Your Bionic Here - RootzWiki )

1. open a command prompt on your pc
2. cd desktop/Your folder name
3. moto-fastboot flash cdt.bin cdt.bin enter
4. moto-fastboot erase cache enter
5. moto-fastboot reboot enter
Don't type enter, just click enter

that post mentions rsd lite. do i need this or can it be done with command prompt?

If you already downloaded the back back to stock zip file, it contains the moto-fastboot.exe file in it. Just place the cdt.bin file in there and go to a cmd prompt type in this: moto-fastboot.exe flash cdt.bin cdt.bin enter
(enter just being hit the enter key)

then moto-fastboot.exe reboot enter

should boot your phone up just fine, if you get into a boot loop, go into stock recovery and do a factory reset.

just went through all of this, and I finally got things updated to 901. I am still rooted, checked by running TiBu (which gave me a message about the su files being assigned incorrectly, then it offered to fix it, so I did). However, I checked for updates and it says something is available. I am in the process of downloading it now, but I can't check to see what this update entails. Anyone else come across this? I don't think I'm going to install the update, but I can pull it off the phone if anyone is interested. (just let me know where I can find it)

My "About phone" reads the following
System Version 5.9.901.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Baseband version CDMA_N_04.06.00R LTEDC_U_07.1E.00
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-g83f1a47 vwm736@il93lnxdroid43 #1
Build # 5.5.1_84_DBN-70

well after flashing the cdt.bin file i can boot up but when i try to log in to google it says "please wait. this may take a few minutes." well after 10 minutes im guessing there is something wrong. when my bionic was out of commission i activated my d1 and it said something about my 4g sim card not being useful. could this be the problem.

Yes you are going to have to get a new 4g Sim card, it gets deactivated when you switch to a 3g phone and they are not able to reactivate them

While you wait, you can skip the activation by tapping on the for corners of the set up screen starting with the top left.

Then just do wifi, get it all ready for when you get your Sim card.

I was having trouble with the upgrade path one-click. On the first time, I had bootloops when rebooting at the beginning of step 3. I R3L3AS3DROOT back to 886, then tried the one click again and had trouble rooting in 893.

So I just R3L3ASEDROOT again to 886, rooted and 4ever rooted (Step 1).
Then, I started up the bootloader/stock recovery and applied the 893 update zip from that path saver created.
Booted up, ran 4ever root again (via R3L3ASEDROOT, step 3, though I'm not sure if I had to, it didn't have any errors though).
Then I started up bootloader/stock recovery and applied the 901 update zip that path saver created. Booted up, in 901 and rooted.

EDIT: Loaded up Eclipse 2.1 RC with no problems (on 901). Tried 2.0 w/ 901 support before that but it was showing 5.7.983...

It's just showing that because that's what it's system was built on. You're still 901 though.

That's what I figured, since a ROM flash doesn't touch the radio... I just never used a ROM that wasn't based off my current OTA, if that makes sense..
