Gold flaking on camera button coming off

Does anyone have any more picture of the white camera button? The OP's picture was a little hard to make out the extent of the paint loss.

What can't you see? White = paint loss, Gold = paint still there. It will likely be entirely white eventually though.

Thanks for your reply. What I can't see is the intensity/shade of the white. I can't tell if the white on your picture has been augmented by a flash, or if it is how it currently looks like with the paint loss, etc. Either way, disappointing how quickly it is peeling. Thanks for the heads up.

Like another user said, when it starts peeling, I think I'll just scratch off the paint and color it with a sharpie.

I can try to explain it. It is more of a pearl white than a true white. There was a particular pattern/design/sheen to the gold that originated from the center and kind of "starburst" outward? That same design is in the white, just less pronounced because it is well...white.

That being said, it is very opaque, there is no shine to it. It seems like the button has a raised piece of plastic on the top. For the most part it looks like that gold comes off first, and then the sides follow.

I'm considering putting on a coat of clear nail polish on it, as well. Like another user suggested.

@ Maverick

Thanks for your explanation. It was very helpful.

I colored mine (black) and it looks like ****!!!!

I just got done applying Sharpie black to mine. I think it came out fairly well. It was a larger marker and I did the top piece in 1 stroke. Looks way better than white.

That being said, does it look better than Gold? Probably not. Is it a decent solution to a problem they won't deal with reasonably? Absolutely. It still blends in with the phone and will likely go unnoticed by most and even by me after a few weeks. Assuming the black doesn't wear off, but even if it does, reapply.

I don't think i'll be colouring mine in with a sharpie... it would look a bit tacky. - Probably will try to find a gold sticker and stick it on the white strip while i still can and paint a clear varnish over it.

I can absolutely assure you that a sticker will look 300% more tacky. To each his own I guess.

I do think this is the best solution and the least noticeable. You have to stomach that it is white, the white matches nothing on the phone. At least black matches black. Very difficult to match the gold, and likely won't stick correctly and will be half peeling all the time.

That is indeed a very valid point! Hmm, what to do...

Doesn't hurt to try either way really. You can peel off the gold sticker if you do it first, or put the gold sticker over the black if you do that first, heh.

As long as you agree you don't leave it white ;)

You could try like modeling black paint or something but would need a very good steady hand. You don't want it to clump up or not be smooth.

You'd think that a $600 phone would at least have gold anodised buttons, but come on coloured foil/paint?
