Gold flaking on camera button coming off

Doesn't hurt to try either way really. You can peel off the gold sticker if you do it first, or put the gold sticker over the black if you do that first, heh.

As long as you agree you don't leave it white ;)

You could try like modeling black paint or something but would need a very good steady hand. You don't want it to clump up or not be smooth.

You'd think that a $600 phone would at least have gold anodised buttons, but come on coloured foil/paint?

Yeah, I agree, pretty sickening. What troubles me is I take very, very good care of my phone. I'd venture to say much better than the average user. I've had it since launch day basically and not a single scratch, drop, or visible detractor. Now this gold button thing. Who knows where'd it be if I was *gasp* a normal user or even worse to my phone than average.

I've asked some of my female friends, and they have suggested that putting a clear nail polish over the gold paint might make things worse, and exacerbate the peeling when dry. Can anyone comment on this? I'm also concerned that applying a coat of nail polish to the button might render it unusable (sticky?).

This seems to be a pretty "serious" issue, considering how easily the paint seems to peel. Totally ruins the ascetics of the phone. I'm surprised more people have not reported this issue.

Yeah, I am surprised myself as well. I didn't think about it getting sticky, but I'd think if it were allowed to dry completely it wouldn't. Fingernails don't get sticky if allowed to dry, but you are right, it might chip off eventually. I might try some black modeling paint designed specifically for plastic.

I had this problem a little while ago. When I had to swap out the phone because of microphone issues, the first thing I did was coat the button in clear nail polish. the button hasn't flaked at all now, and it's not tacky. No change in button functionality

Thank you for your respone. I should have been more clear about my concern with button fuctionality. I am concerned about adding a layer of nail polish to the sides of the button might make it diffcult to push down, due to the additional layer. I've never woked with nail polish before so I really don't know what I'm talking about.

A long as I don't make things worse I'm willing to ty it.

No, the extra layer doesn't get in the way. I got the idea from an ex girlfriend to make nails in the wall match the wallpaper. Instead of having a shiney dot in the wall, the nail blends in

Now I use clear polish to protect anything small like screws and buttons that might scratch. Use a single stroke and a light layer. Add a second layer if you need more

The top of my button has two layers and the sides have one. Be patient and let it dry before handling or adding another layer, or it'll look terrible

mine too

mine did also. I took black caliper paint (high heat and ceramic) masked off phone body and painted it bleach. Looks like factory and no trouble now just be meet and it fixes it

Is this "clear nail polish"? I was hoping to find something that actually contained those words at my local drug store.

I tried putting it on a red plastic pen, and it seemed like some of the color was coming off...

Help would be wonderful.

That's the stuff

Was that directed for me? If so, thanks for the reply. Glad for the confirmation as, I was originally worried about it stripping the paint off my droid.

Yessir, that was for you. I bought a bottle of OPI Top Coat from the drug store and it worked just fine. If it looks a little lumpy after the first application, just leave it alone as usual wear with take out any of the highs and lows on the finish
