LOL, your not wrong I was wrong. :icon_eek: It was the download size that threw me off
mystery solved, lol

anyway, back on topic...yea, my temp goes up, which is normal and expected.. When i use earth on my desktop pc i here the processor working overtime. Also it freezes on my droid. I'd have to hit back button return to home, relaunch earth then it'll work for a few seconds again then freeze. i may try going down to overclock to 900 from 1100 to see if that helps, don't see why it would though.

@bastosero If you want it, there's really no reason not to root and install something like Bugless at this point, which now comes with the default 550 kernel if you don't want to O/C. You can always revert with Nandroid backup if you need to do a hardware swap at some point.

I'm apathetic about the availability of Google Earth, though, since it's scarcely more than a toy. This version also seems to be lacking buildings layer which is actually somewhat useful. Maps gives me the real-world functionality that I need. If you want something to really show off your Droid, just get Google Sky. Uninstalled.

Yeah, I've been really considering rooting my Droid since I've had it for a while now. I've been holding off just to see 2.1 officially roll out for the Droid, but it just seems too long of a wait.

What is it that earth can do that google maps can't....am i wrong i thought they were extremly similar.
similar but different. hard to explain.. It's like when your using the navigation in 3d satelite but you can scroll around in 3d with any angle, latitude, etc you want... Just like google earth on your computer that it's diff then google maps Guess it's like comparing bloo to facebook. same thing but different.

all probably terrible examples but like i said, hard for me to explain

Very nice on my rooted droid. Definitely a resource hog, I've had two freezes and one full reboot from it. And I'm overclocked at 1.25Ghz.

It's definitely not the most useful app but it's freakin cool running earth on your phone. Great use of multitouch, too. Took a second to get used to but when you do it's kinda fun just zoomin around the globe playing with the multitouch.

As long as it works long enough for me to show off to a few droid haters I know.

Don't let VZW and Moto keep jerking you around; just do it and revel in the true awesomeness of your phone. The beauty of rooting now is that you get all the benefits of 2.1 integrated into a stable 2.01 kernel in addition to some of the amazing add-on functionality only available with root. I've been rooted and ROM'd since January, and I can attest that there's some amazing development going on. When official 2.1 comes, you'll have the update + all the root goodness from the ROM scene in hours. Cheers! -Dave

Long story short. I dl google earth. Works fine. I discover my virtual keyboard doesn't work so I flash Droidmod to eliminate my 2.1 keyboard and live wallpaper. Now although I can see earth under settings application, it is no longer on my launcher or in the market when I look there.
Any ideas? Is it looking for the 2.1 keyboard or the live wallpaper?

Thanks so basically an amped up version....but your not really missing anything essential in maps

In order to see Google Earth in the Market you need to edit the Build.Prop File and change SDK=6 to SDK=7
I used Root Explorer to edit the file. Make sure you get the Build.Prop in the System folder. It is on line 6, so it is right at the top. When you find the folder select open in Text Editor and simply change the 6 to 7. I did not even have to reboot although you may have too.
I left the release alone, it still says 2.0.1 but if you like you cange change it while you are in the file, it is on line 8. It is not necessary to change, at least I did not need to change it
