Google Voice

If you got an invite from somebody for you, you go to the link and follow directions to set yourself up.

If you got an invite to send out, you should be able to email it to somebody.

invite

I got the invite to myself. I guess what I am looking for, what does it do and how can I learn about. And thanks for your quick response

GV is actually quite awesome. I got it with the understanding that it was a replacement for my voicemail inbox. It could text, email, or play and transcribe into text your voicemails without having to call yourself.

What I found out after using it, is it is also a forwarding service, and can link all your phones from one number that you can choose, allows international calling at incredibly low rates, completely free SMS text messaging, and more to boot.

People have used their GV numbers into their Friends & Family plans to allow calling to anyone without using their minutes, lowered if not removed their text messaging plans. It's literally all I use now.

Google Voice Help offers a pretty good FAQ about some of the things it does, as well as a number of threads in this forum (if you don't mind sifting through thousands of invite requests) that can help give you a better understanding on this truly amazing tool.

Follow the link from your invite email (hopefully set up with the GMail account you use on your Droid to easily sync it) and set up your very own Google number, d/l the Google Voice app from the market if you don't already have it, and enjoy its wonders

Hey Thanks

Sounds pretty good. Now to read the stuff and learn how to do all the stuff. I thank you for the information. I have to try it out. Knowing me. I'll get stuck some place and wind up in the middle of a lake.
Have a nice wkend, and happy f/d if it applies

No problem with the info. This has easily become my favorite app, so if you have any trouble, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly help you out.

The Google voice transcribed phone messages are a real hoot to read. :D

Had a few voice mail messages today that were transcribed and sent to me via email and the whole house got a great laugh trying to read back what Google had translated to text from the voice message. It's like reading instructions on devices made in Taiwan.

Being able to just playback the voice mail audio file on your phone or computer is really cool though. Better make sure you don't leave a threatening message for someone who has Google Voice.
It could come back to haunt you. :)
