Got my X2

The pentile screen is weird... Elkay it's like you said - certain things just look flat out crappy. But other things do look nice and the higher res helps overall. It does get better after you get used to it - but it doesn't change the fact that some gradients are off, text looks bad in some spots, etc.

But then you'll see posts from others that can't even see the stuff that looks bad... I don't think I'm overly spoiled with regard to my screens. :icon_eek:

Perhaps GB when installed will fix the issue.

afraid not - it's a screen issue, not software, based on everything i've read - it's just the way the technology is

to be clear, it does look really nice in most instances thanks to the qHD resolution, but there are some other situations where it just looks horrid b/c of how pentile manages color, gradients/pixels, etc...

Brightness doesn't change it. I brought it down to equivalent max brightness of the DX1 using them side by side, and even took it all the way down. Either way, it didn't make things any better.

Gingerbread won't fix the issue. The pixels are literally arranged in a different order inside the display. Here's an article on it, maybe I'd posted it on a different thread.

PenTile matrix family - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Perfect examples of what's going on below. The image quality difference is blatantly obvious. The DX1 display is the same as the top examples in each photo, the DX2 display is the same as the bottom ones. You can start to see the jaggedness in the font in the first pic, but pretending the middle example is actually a lower case "L", look at how jagged it would make the letter when in color and at a small font size. Looking at the photograph example, the horrid loss of detail stands out like a sore thumb especially in the pink area and darker greens.

512 ram right? Well is that all available ram? Or is it like the Fascinate where only 384 is available?

refresh my memory on how to check what's actually available?

You can download the app Elixir (Free Version) and then its in the system info within the Elixir app. It will have a Ram category and then say Total (Available) then Free.

On Samsung phones there is a Ram manager that shows this which is nice.

According to Quadrant:

Total: 413796 kB
Free: 3584 kB
Inactive: 192824 kB

I'm honestly surprised to see all but 3.5 MB used but I suppose the inactive memory can be swapped out pretty quick if needed. Regardless, it still blows away my OG Droid that it replaced. My highest Quadrant score was 2668 with the X2 and my lowest was somewhere in the 2400's. I'm happy with my purchse. :D

Thats about 400mbs available. Grrr, I hate how they are limiting Ram in these vzw phones. Yea should prolly have more than 3.5 mbs free though. Check your running services to see if some bloat is running in bg. That quadrant is awesome though.

On a fresh boot I'm looking at:

Total: 413796
Free: 3044
Inactive: 178004

.... Quadrant is showing I have 1 core!?!?!

My Quadrant came out 2444.
