GPS Outage in East Texas?

has anyone tried the factory reset? did it do any good?

Not recently but did several times when this first started. The fact that all is fine when you leave this area tends to show that it is not an issue within the phone so I don’t see anything that can be done from the phone end to fix this.

Caddoview is correct. My phone is rooted and isn't working, and stock droids aren't working. Couple of folks have the X and it isn't working either. We are stick in limbo with Verizon and Google and it's getting to the point of something needs to happen soon, or they will start losing customers. And that's unfortunate...

i just called CS again and this time got a ticket number so i could check up on my call..

the other 3 times i called, this did not happen. i guess i was lied too.

or maybe it takes 3 times to get their attention..

also, this time i was calling about VZ navigator not getting my location... maybe that's what did it..

anyway... i have a call i can track...

might not be better... but it's different..

GPS services stopped working shortly after I posted this morning. I've seen 2 or 3 satellites occasionally. but no fix since early this morning. I'm in Henderson.

GPS has been up twice today in Marshall, only last about twenty minutes each time. I hope this a good sign.

I haven't had any up time in a long time. I don't know that the blips count for much though. I got my GPS back for half a day about three weeks ago, and have had nothing since.....

I received a response from the Verizon Solutions Consultant I spoke with Monday morning. This is the same gentleman that added our issue to the regional meeting that happened yesterday.

Here's his response:
"There is some lively discussion going on. One recommendation is making sure your device has the latest firmware update.

I will send a more comprehensive response later today, but again, wheels are in motion. We have the right team in place isolate the problem and provide the solution."

I will post his comprehensive response later today.

Better than the reply I received which sounded like the typical canned response you get from automated systems. I dont like the whole make sure your firmware is updated solution though. Last I checked my phone alerted me to a software update which I performed that very minute. If Verizon is reading this, please remember it is not just Droids that are affected!! PS..it is 10:21am and my damn GPS still does not work!!

Updates are a whole new can of worms. I am still at 2.2 while I hear some are 2.21 and don’t have this issue. Others have gotten 2.3 and still don’t have GPS. Sounds like just another, “its not our problem” response from Verizon.

Just finally got an EMAIL back...when I wanted a call. Here's part of it:

"You are a valued customer and I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with using certain applications on your phone. I know how important it is to use your applications, and I will be happy to assist you with your concerns regarding the GPS feature not working in East Texas.
In reviewing current outages, I was unable to find any details about an outage in East Texas for GPS problems with third party applications. Since no information was found, I was unable to confirm when this issue will be resolved."

Third party apps? I specifically said it wasn't an app issue. It was also interesting that she found no current outages in East Texas dealing with the GPS, granted she did add "third party applications" on it. And here's the funny part, here's the end of the email:

"We also show that you are eligible for an upgrade on your lines ending in 3700 and 8662. This means that you will be able to purchase any phone that we offer, at the discounted pricing."

There is no issue but SPEND more money with us!! Just another FYI for everyone...

I drove down to Alexandria, LA, Monday and the GPS didn't work until after we passed Natchitoches. It worked like a charm the whole time we were down there and most of the way back...I think it crapped out just before reaching Marshall. It's like it resisted connecting to the GPS on the way there and then didn't want to let go on the way back.

Either way, the aGPS or whatever seemed to consistently work in Google Navigate, though it's not as accurate and also didn't update as often as the regular GPS...not to mention it doesn't talk to you or zoom in very far when in that mode.

I love how they keep calling Google Maps a "third party" application. Point in fact is that Google Maps is a FirstParty application. It's all the Verizon bloatware and VZ Naviagator that are the third party apps.

The person who said update your firmware won't be able to help. They obviously don't know what is going on. This problem is ALL on Verizon's side with the towers.

I posted it before, but here it is again. We all need to go file FCC complaints. Disabling GPS on devices is illegal. Verizon is only going to fix this if they get fined: FCC Consumer Complaints .

I got a call from tech support.. they have seen lots of tickets and are sending engineers to the area..

everyone hold your breath...

I don't think I could have described the behavior any better. I added Marshall and Natchitoches to the map.
