GPS Outage in East Texas?

i spoke with a VZ tech twice yesterday about VZ navigator.. That is all they are interested in is VZ Navigator...

question is.. what happens when VZN works and the other gps apps do not?

i'm afraid they'll hang us out to dry.

Wow I just read this whole thread and I am very sorry that you guys have to go through this. I am very disappointed in the way verizon is treating you. I hope the GPS gets resolved for you guys sooner rather than later. I'm keeping my fingers crossed..

Tappin' away on my DROIDX

Well my friends, I have a gps fix! This could be big because it has never worked for me, even intermittently. Here's to hoping this is the end of our gps woes!

I'm on my way back home (Henderson, tx) from a trip to Alba, TX. On the way to Alba, I was finally able to get a GPS fix on the west side of Gladewater on highway 80 around 5:15 pm today. I've maintained a fix since that time and I'm only 10 miles away from home. I also restarted my phone in Mineola, TX. Things are looking up. I hope this is a good sign.

Mine has been pretty good.. haven't checked the wife's..

I did talk to the VZ Tech guy.. he has been gathering all this information and has several tickets.. doesn't say how many.. anyway the interesting thing he asked was did i come over from Alltel? well as a matter of fact we did. He then said he has noticed that many of the people having problems were former Alltel customers. He hasn't done the formal research but just quickly looking that was something taht jumped out at him.

so my question is.. Is it just former Alltel people having problems? Alltel was pretty big around here.. it would kinda make sense. If it proves to be the case, this is a hard piece of data that will help the narrow the search and get to the root of the problem. It also makes sense that this all started about the time they switched the Alltel towers over to Verizon. 2 and 2 kinda adds up.. at least with a quick look.

He is watching this forum and the other one over at VZW.. We need to know.. are you having gps problems and are a former Alltel customer!!!

I'll post over at VZW as well.

good luck!!!

I'm not an Alltel customer. I switched over straight to verizon from AT&T middle of last year.

Edit: What do they mean by "many" of the people. It has been my impression that all android users were knocked out. They didn't confirm this already? They can't possibly think that the demo phones that don't work in the Verizon stores were Alltell customers...

Been working all night for me, so maybe this is a moot point now...

I'm not from Alltell either. I've been with Verizon for about 5 years.

On the upside, I've had good GPS for yesterday and today!

On another but possibly related note, one of my fire buddies who also has a Droid X said he noticed his phone would jump 1 hour ahead and back when he was at the station. He said it started about 1 month ago; he didn't know anything about the GPS issues as he doesn't use GPS much. I noticed the time shifts Thursday when I was at Longview Fire Station 3 at Birdsong and MLK. I'm thinking it might be related to the GPS issues since GPS is time dependent. Has anyone else noticed issues with their phones displaying incorrect times?

Been up and going since Friday! I'd like to thank everybody for contacting Verizon, it seems like they FINALLY listened to ALL of us! I hope this thanks isn't premature...

I was out of town all weekend so of course it was workig great.. got in last afternoon, late. This morning all was well. I don't think it's been enough time to call it fixed, but things look promising.

when i talked to the Tech guy.. he said that alot of the tickets showed people who he thought had switched to verizon from alltel. he could easily tell they were not native verizon numbers. he wasn't sure that meant anything, but he was including it in his report to upper management at verizon. it seemed odd that all this started happening when verizon switched the ownership of the towers from alltel to verizon. does it make sense that it might leave out non native verizon numbers? dunno for sure, but it makes me wonder that maybe they found it.

all that still doesn't answer the questin what the heck the cell towers or network has to do with satlites over head. my gps works (when working) in airplane mode. if it had to have cell signal then how is this possible in airplane mode?

Checking in from Longview again. All seems to be well since Friday night (5/20/11). I have tried several Droids and Blackberrys and all have been happy no matter what mapping app or GPS app was ran, of course all of these have been in the Longview area. PS..I'm not a formal Alltel customer either, as I've been with Verizon for about 7 years now. I don't know what they fixed, but VERIZON..IF YOU'RE LISTENING, DON'T BREAK IT AGAIN!
