Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

I've noticed lower quality in pics when viewing them in the updated gallerey. Took some pics right before the update and viewed them in old gallery. My wife even commented on how good the pics looked. Viewed same pics in new gallery and the quality isn't there. Anyone else notice this?

Majority of people that I see are raving about the new gallery. You are the only one I've seen complain about pq.

I think I know what you're talking about. Just wait a few more seconds for your pics to finish loading. Mine looked blurry too, just wait a bit longer for them to load fully.

Since the update I keep seeing an "amazon mp3 store" icon popping up in my task killer. I have no app on my phone for this and I have no idea where it is coming from or how to deactivate it. If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.

Try looking a little harder in your app drawer. Apparently the Amazon MP3 app was renamed in 2.1 to "MP3 Store" (with Amazon displayed on the icon.) If your app drawer is displaying alphabetically, you'll find it down in the "M's."

You'll also find it if you look in Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Menu>Filter>All. And you'll find it's an o/s activated app that cannot be deleted.

Perhaps if you're willing to pay Google as much to have it removed as Amazon undoubtedly paid to have it included you can get rid of it.

Thanks for the help, I don't know how I missed it in my drawer! What does it even do? It pops up when I haven't used any of my music apps.

I noticed that after I updated my Droid to 2.1 (non-rooted) my LED notification stops blinking after I unlock the phone. I liked how it would continue to blink until I pulled down the notification bar. That way I can check to see if it's a TXT or email. Does anyone know a way to change it back?

Funny, mine doesn't do that. Nothing has changed at all about notifications.

With the 2.1 update mine has stopped working as well. Thinking about downloading Missed Call to see if I get it back again, but as of right now no LED's anymore.

It drains your wallet by enabling you to purchase MP3's. Think of a less polished, less functional version of the iTunes Store. I'm not sure what you mean by "pop up," but if you mean that it shows up in memory, don't worry about it.

I'm only getting the blinking LEDs if the phone screen is ON when it checks for mail or a text comes in. Like if it's plugged in to the dock or something. If the phone is dark, no notifications.

Minor but annoying issue with the new Gallery. I have photos from a variety of sources including multiple wallpaper apps. In the old Gallery it was difficult to keep track of where a particular photo resided but at least there was an overall category that included "all pictures." So if push came to shove I could locate a photo in that group.

The new gallery both eliminates the distinction between photos and videos (in terms of categories), it also drops the "all photos" category.

I suspect I can reorganize the photos and videos by moving stuff around on the SD card, but it's going to be a PITA.
I have the same gripe. When I had rooted with DM, the 2.1 gallery was much more organized. Now that I unrooted & went with OTA 2.1, I see folders full of icons & all kinds of junk. Some are even Beautiful Widgets skins. I tried as an experiment to delete one of the BW folders of a skin I never used, & as I figured it would, it made the skin unusable.

I have 3 "Downloads" folders (which is unnecessary, imo), a few named "drawable" & "drawable-hdpi" (there's actually 6 of the hdpi folders).

Is there a way to hide some of these? They are really annoying & I don't care to look at them.

Howdy,

Google Earth for Android 2.1 and higher
under market, search "earth" it should be right there at the top. install it with your Droid running 2.1. works great... :)

I don't see it in the mkt, searching 'earth' or 'google earth'

For many of us it's not showing up. I don't even want it, but I'm afraid that this is pointing to deeper underlying problems. My gallery isn't working properly at all, for example.

also not seeing google earth here (did OTA upgrade). Everything else is working right (and I figured out my email/gmail voice to text issue mentioned earlier).

That is interesting

My new gallery seems A-OK though

I posted this in the bootloader 2C thread.

My phone is less than 2 months old. I love it and it does everything I need for business and pleasure. However Friday I got the update for 2.1 notification and began the install.

I accepted the update and the phone went to reboot after about 10 minutes of loading and install OTA.

The screen remained on the Droid "eye" screen for over an hour during the reboot. I plugged in the phone to the wall during this time and waited another hour.

After hour 2 I tried to turn off the phone. It wouldn't shut down. After another 20 minutes I decided to pull the battery.

I reinstalled the battery, got the Motorola "M" logo and then it booted up fine to homescreen. Phone froze at home screen. Could not touch anything including apps, app drawer, phone button, hard keys such as menu etc... In other words it was a very pretty electronic paperweight.

Repeated the above two steps for about an hour and then after my 10th or 11th attempt to remove the battery I got the boot loader screen with the error in this thread upon power up.

Pulled battery and SD card. Replaced battery and turned on phone. Got Motorola "M" logo. Then boot loader.

Repeated until Sunday and gave up after searching all the forums and trying every trick including reflash. Called Verizon warranty center.

Tried booting to safe mode and doing hard reset per Tech instructions. Would not boot to safe mode and could not get to home screen to reset the phone.

Called Verizon again this morning and they are overnighting me a new Droid. When it arrives I have to use my current battery, insert it into phone and boot up. Then send my current brick back to Verizon.

For the record, my phone liquid indicator shows no signs of water. Meaning its White with solid Red "X's" as is the battery's indicator. I've not dropped it, its never been wet or even used in the snow or brought into the bathroom during a shower. I've also never rooted the phone or installed non market approved apps or anything silly like the picture generating apps for phone calls. (whatever those are) I've babied it and read that most users had no troubles with the update.

Has anyone else had something similar?

I'm really happy they are over nighting me a new phone. It gives me some confidence in their customer service.

THREE Messaging Icons

My husband got the update on his Droid yesterday...now he has THREE Messaging icons..how do I delete the extra two?

Anyone having Gmail sync issues?

I have hit the "sync now" button a few times and nothing showed up on my droid but I received 4 new emails.

Also...the LED's for my tests and email isn't working.
That's the one thing I just noticed, my LED's aren't working for handcent.

I would clear the cache in gmail and as far as the led in Handcent, mines not working either.... I guess handcent gets to fix that one.

I haven't taken the time yet to see if its this issue:

Edit.. that was the issue... Handcent's "test" of the led doesn't work because your screen is on visualizing it... if you could somehow test it with the phone asleep I suppose it would work...

Handcent works normal and the led blinks with incoming text when the phone is asleep or the screen is off....
But again, for test purposes, handcent will have to fix that.
