Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

Has anyone noticed a difference on the call clarity of the Droid with the (Official) 2.1 firmware update, now that it's out? I've read a few posts that some are not noticing a difference and are still getting muffled sounds, giving muffled voice and sometimes hearing popping/crackling like they did under 2.0.1. Anyone notice an improvement?

No improvement with the update. I am getting my fifth replacement Droid in the next day or so. The four previous have had significant call quality issues, including muffling and echoes. I'm hoping this time is a charm!

OMG, FIFTH!?!?! :icon_eek:

I don't have any complaints but I thought the update would provide 5 screens instead of 3. I still have only 3. The live wallpapers are awesome. I am hoping now for some new applications, like flash, to be developed too.

I fixed this by downloading HelixLauncher... now I have the 5 screens I wanted + more!

I wanna do this, but it was recommended we download a safety net of something called a home screen switcher... I don't know that that's the exact name but would like to know because last time I downloaded helixlauncher it went crazy on me and I went through this loop of force closing for about half an hour before I was able to get free of it and back to my original 3 screens.

I want helixlauncher back but I don't wanna go through THAT again, without a safety "out"... I've searched by the words, "home", "switcher", "switch", "screen", and still can't find this app... anyone know it's correct name? I did search "home screen switcher" verbatim but again, nothing...

i just wish they would have the 3d drawer and the other stuff included as well. i guess you dont always get what you want, thats what custom ROMs are for i guess!

You can have multiple screens if you get the helixlauncher 2. I've heard mostly good things about it. Give it a try!

Hook. :)

Do you literally mean helixlauncher 2? or helixlauncher 1? Sometimes in typing we intermix words with numbers. I've started doing that off and on, because I tweet a lot and find I'm doing it everywhere now...

I'm asking because I'd heard helixlauncher 2 wasn't working well, so I wanted to be certain. :)

helixlauncher 2 is made specifically for 2.1 so I believe that's the one I've heard the good reports about. You can take it for a spin, if you don't like it delete it. I don't use one myself so I can't say for certain.

hmm... Well, then that explains why I had trouble with helixlauncher1. lol

thanks, hook. :)

Just an FYI, HelixLauncher 2 is for Nexus One ONLY, will cause FC loop on 2.1 Droid Official OTA. It is stated clearly in the app description in the Market "For NEXUS ONE ONLY".

HelixLauncher (no 1 or 2) works great for Official 2.1 Droid.

Thanks for clearing that up.

BTW, for those that installed Helix Launcher 2 and found themselves in an FC loop. There is an easy way to get out of it, no reboot, no safe mode, etc.

When you get the FC pop up.. have your finger on the Home Hard button, press the "Force Close" button and IMMEDIATELY tap the Home hard key. This will popup the choice of selecting another home/launcher and get you out of the FC loop and into another Home/Launcher so you can uninstall the darn thing. You may continue to get FC popups but you can close them and continue your way into Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to uninstall it.

Same goes for other home/Launchers that FC.

BUT, if you selected the "FCing Launcher" as default this may not work so well...SO never select default until you know a Home/Launcher is stable on your Droid..

This is the one I downloaded (no 1 or 2) and haven't had any problems with it since the download. Works seamlessly. :icon_ banana:

I'm just not sure if i got the update complete or not. While downloading 2.1 i lost reception and got a screen showing an ! inside a yellow triangle. I took the droid to where i know reception was available but an hour later the screen hadn't changed. I got frustrated and removed the battery to reboot. In 'settings>about phone is reads v2.1 update1. I never saw anything on the screen saying the update was successful or not. Anyone know how i can tell for sure one way or another if i got the update right? thanks

If it says 2.1-update1 in About Phone then, that pretty much means you have the new firmware. You don't notice it being any faster and more responsive?

I'm beginning to wonder just how good this update is. I had duplicate icons of Amazon and corporate email yesterday. Battery pull fixed it. Today my email stopped syncing. Another battery pull. I think I pulled the battery once previously since I got the droid in late November.

thanks 'natediddy'. to be honest, since the download i haven't done much with it other than phone calls and gmails. i don't know why but i was expecting 5 screens after the update
