[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

So if I force the update is it exactly the same as if I wait for it ota or will o not get the next update

It is the same as OTA!

You're pulling the Update.zip direct from Google... And force installing it. Not waiting for the OTA..

Awesome! Thanks so much. I'm disappointed to see that we're still stuck on 3 screens, and they didn't include the new clock/alarm app. Otherwise, it's nice to finally catch up to the nexus one. (mostly)

I love the Droid version of the circuits live wallpaper though.

Voice to text is pretty sick.. I know you're not supposed to text and drive..

But..... . . .

with this Google is gonna be saving lives!

Now if us non rooted users could get a multitouch keyboard, life would be grand. Maybe that'll come in update2!

Try smart keyboard pro? It has multitouch with 2.1

Backlit keyboard

Anyone else having the issue where the backlight on the keyboard isn't working. Perhaps its a setting I've overlooked? Otherwise all is good.

Thanks, funny thing is I waited up until 1:20am just hanging out here, lol.

I said it before I signed off, "as soon as I leave the update will surface."

Still very grateful :)

Just chiming in. 2.1 Force update worked perfectly for me. Thanks to everyone who made it possible!

And like a44 above me said, this is a great forum. Excellent community and helpful people. All forums should be like this!

If I'm rooted and place the update.zip and run it will that work or do I have to/should unroot first and then run it in recovery mode?
