how to mount moto droid to your bicycle

Ive played around with My Tracks - not on a bike yet (its been single digit or sub zero temps here lately). But I liked what I saw just driving/walking around.

I've seen one really similar to the one posted on eBay, but I don't know that I'm willing to be the first to give it a shot. Right off the bat, I'm thinking that even with the one posted, I'd still have a rubber band on it to ensure it doesn't pop out.

I'm guessing that I'll end up custom making something to meet my own needs, and standards. (unless I stumble across one with a lot of great reviews)

Not a solution to the question, but tossing the Droid into your Jersey pocket works well for recording your tracks on the Roadie (used my tracks). I wouldn't trust it on the bars on my mtb but then again I already have a dedicated GPS unit for this.

Great mount!

I got 220 hits in an ebay search...here are 2 of them

I use this exact same mount (except with a suction cup) for mounting my phone to the windshield of my 18-wheeler. It's gotten a lot of abuse (though probably not as much as riding a bike - duh), but never has fallen out. Just squeeze it tight. A friend uses this mount on his ATV to hold his GPS and it's never fallen off. I'll bet that's close to bicycle abuse...

I wonder how these would work on my motorcycle? Or if someone can point me to an eBay or other listing where it would mount on the cycle I'd appreciate it. I will NEVER use a suction cup on my windshield....no way.

I was reading this thread because if it will work on a bike, it should work on my motorcycle.
My thoughts exactly. I like the person's idea who posted this link: Amzer Bicycle Handlebar Mount For Motorola - Motorola Droid A855 - Vehicle Mounts - Fommy.com

I think it will be ok on my Vulcan 1600 cruiser. I still might try to reinforce it somehow with zip ties or something just for good luck. But, I can wait for a couple of months because riding season ended for me early when I totaled my Jeep and dislocated my right ankle. Now, there's 14 inches of snow on the ground!

I've been going the mytracks in jersey pocket route which works pretty well. It's pretty secure and the Droid is safe (barring a major getoff) with the obvious downside being you can't use the Droid as a bike computer.

As an aside, I'm pretty happy with mytracks. Very accurate, nice to be able to upload to google maps/docs and the elevation graphic is always interesting to look at after the ride.

I'd go with the Amzer bike mount, too. Looks like they use the OEM Motorola car mount on their own bar mount kit. I have never had the Droid pop out of that car mount, even during off-road driving.

All great links and ideas....thank you all for your responses.

Anyone who has bought the Amzer Bicycle Handlebar Mount For Motorola - Motorola Droid A855 - Vehicle Mounts - Fommy.com? Comments...works great...has issues....etc?

droid bike mount I've used on a Mountain Bike

I have successfully used the above linked mount while riding my bike offroad. Keep in mind that I wasn't taking huge jumps on a rigid frame bike, but the droid stayed safe and secure during some pretty rough riding and I don't have a full suspension bike. Also, I've used My Tracks and Maverick to track rides and prefer My Tracks because it's easier to use.

have you tried calorie counter? I've tried both that and my tracks and it seems to have a few more options. The only thing it doesn't have that I would like to see is the elevation change graph and naming your rides on the phone, but you're supposed to be able to do both online.

I may pick up the mount for myself. Do you know if it will work with an oversize bar 31.6 instead of the standard bar 25.4?

thanks

handle bar mount

No, I haven't tried Calorie Counter. The only way to mount on a 31.6 handlebar (which is what I have) is to mount it on the bend where the bar tapers down for the grips. It's a little tricky and I used a piece of old inner tube to make it stay in place.

I am going to modify the car mount inside of a outdoor products waterproof box for my woods buggy. it will keep splashing mud off of it while allowing me to see the screen. Still trying to decide what program to run, I want to program a couple of points such as campsite. Any ideas what might work best, we tend to get lost at new offroad parks when they are a couple thousand acres, lol. So far car finder looks best for just poing back to a single programable point such as our camp site.
