HOW TO ROOT Droid 2 - IN DEPTH TUTORIAL

i put z4root on my SD card but when I go to install it on my phone it fails to open... tried rooting the other way and none of the PCs in my house will allow me to unzip the files. Help :(

Take the battery of the phone and start over. Make sure you have the latest version of z4root as stated above.

i mustve rebooted my phone 10 times.. battery out and everything
Remove what ever versions of z4root you have off your phone. Here is z4root 1.3.0 its the most current one as far as I know.

Download it directly to your phone using the phones browser or the DF app. Use astro file to install. If it hangs up for more than a min, Do a battery pull an reboot phone. It should work.

...still nothing. Is there another file manager I can use?

EDIT: I fumbled around with it some more, and Astro reads the app now but when I go to install it fails.

I can't figure this out... I successfully downloaded and installed Droid2 Bootstrapper but z4root just won't install.

"Application not installed"

And I wish it was that simple, unknown sources is checked. Im running 2.2 by the way.

The only thing I have left to suggest is try to delete the apk you downloaded and redownload it and try again. Maybe something happened during the download and the file didn't complete. I don't know what else to tell you. Sorry

detoXatappin on my X

I downloaded every version of z4root there is, many times, from different sources and nothing worked. Maybe I'll hhave better luck when I finally get Gingerbread. Or maybe if I do a factory reset.

Whenever I start having this many problems with an app that I really want, I just SBF and factory reset my phone (as well as wiping the cache and dalvik cache)... It takes under an hour to do all that AND restore my apps (appbrain downloads them all for me again, which makes it quick) and set it back up how I had it. I could create backups, either nandroid or TiBackup, but I figure what if they back up the problem I'm having? The extra work is worth a clean install, IMO.
