How To: Root your Motorola DROID Bionic

Root verifications

I did all the steps and the phone rebooted the twice as listed, but I can not tell it is rooted. Am I missing something? Do I need an app that I am missing?

You can tell if your phone is rooted if you try to use Titanium backup and are able to back up your apps. You can also download ROM manager and if it lets you open it, you're rooted.

Before you can boot into recovery mode, Bionic BootStrapp, you can get it from the market.

Thanks - got it done Thursday night/Friday morning and now Verizon release a new version...

You needed to be foreverooted to maintain root through an OTA. The only way I know of now would to do a pathsaver go back root and foreveroot then reflash 902.

This is what I used to forever root. It worked flawlessly. Just don't get into a hurry and follow the directions. I am 43V3R Rooted and on .902.
Please take the time to thank
the OP dhacker29, and devs DroidTh3ory, Crpeck and TH3ORYROM. These folks have done a lot of work that makes our rooting lives easier!:hail: My apologies if I missed anyone.

R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers

Hope this helps.

No. I was on 886 43V3R rooted manually via P3droids text line edits. (Wouldn't take the 893 OTA because of missing two Moto apps I accidentally deleted.) R3L3AS3DRoot brought me back to stock 886 43V3r Rooted with all bloatware. Then downloaded OTA 893. Then applied the .901 leak. I found a link for the file from someone who captured the OTA .902 to upgrade from .901. Maintained root through the whole process.

But now, after reading your question, wooddale, I don't know if R3L3AS3DRoot will work on .902 to get back to .886. I haven't researched it yet. Do you think it would work?

My apologies if I was wrong.

Im not sure either Im good to go on 902 rooted. I got a Bud who is 902 stock and wants to root. Trying to find the easiest way for him to do it. I herd r3l3ased root didnt work on 893. I did it once on 886 and it worked. Since then Im kinda like you I got 901 and 902 erom forums and now Im 902 foreverooted on the path lol.

I would read completely through the r3l3ased post to see if you might get an inkling about not working from 893. I think it will work, because remembering that one of the options is supposed to completely wipe your phone and put back to stock.

I was told that since we don't have an unlocked bootloader, that we cannot use Bionic Bootstrapper to go back n forth between ROMs, OTA loads, etc. Why is this? What does the Bootloader file (correct description?) have that prevents us from doing this? I was all happy going from 886 to 902 at first. Then I find out that we cannot restore to a different flash #; i.e. 902 back to 893 via saved Bootstrap BU.

See where I am going with this? I saved my bloated 886, 893 rooted, and 901 Bootstrap BU's. If I could restore back n forth between flashes,.... Would save a lot of heart ache worrying about bricking my phone.

Damn Moto and Verizon for making proprietary systems! I am used to being able to manipulate my PC how I want it. We should be able to do the same with our phones. I thought I had control issues!!
