[How To] Unlock Bootloader & Root Galaxy Nexus

I have all of the files, let me know if I can help.
Try as i might, I can't get the Android 1.0 driver to install. I installed PdaNet on my desktop XP computer with my Galaxy connected. It did not install PdaNet on my Galaxy nor did it install the Andriod 1.0 driver on my computer. The Samsung drivers seem to work just fine but when I boot to the bootloader, my device manager drops the Samsung driver notices and gives me an error "unknown device". Please help. I'm stuck.

It took me 3-4 tries to get that PdaNet to work right. Keep trying.. Otherwise, I use Win 7 and not XP so I wonder if that is it? Maybe someone else can comment?

It will boot loop a a couple times after unlocking the boot loader it is totally normal. Those who can't get "android 1.0" to install use the "Let me pick" option and choose Samsung mobile phone from the list iirc. Provided you have the Samsung drivers installed.

It worked on my third try, thanks. Who knows ... When i tried it the third time it was clearly different and the driver under "Android Device" changed and was then listed as Android 1.0. Cool.

Just finished unlocking the bootloader and rooting. Very straightforward and easy. Just curious though, will I still receive and be able to install OTA updates if I'm rooted with an unlocked bootloader?

Take this with a grain of salt, but according to P3Droid, he alluded to the fact that the Nexus may some how keep track whether or not it's been unlocked. I don't know if it's true or even possible...

All it would require would be an efuse that blows the first time the bootloader is unlocked. Won't damage the device, but gives them something solid they can go on.

Benson, you happen to catch my link about the 1/2 price extended battery from VZW??

No i didn't. Directly from Verizon? Link?

Hey, that case I picked up is annoying. The case fits pretty snugly, so when you grip it, it's easy to inadvertently push the volume button. I may take an exacto knife to it to see if I can remove the tiny part that covers the volume rocker. Screen protector seems decent though.
