[How To] Unlock Bootloader & Root Galaxy Nexus

CJM is referring to me lol. I just started over from Step 1 to see if I can figure out where I am messing up or what I am missing :)

just wondering, you used "adb reboot bootloader" to get the phone into the bootloader? then once your there adb is not working.
would seem to narrow the possibilities if adb worked while the phone was booted thats why i asked

Yes, adb does work to boot into bootloader. And once there I get the error CJM posted earlier.

While in bootloader, in device manager it shows Android 1.0 with an error icon. When trying to install the drivers it fails.

What happens if you run pdanet again. Or have you tried that already.

I tried that and everything installs. It has not asked either time for me to select my manufacturer like it states in the OP though.

That has to be it. Until those are installed, you're going to keep getting that error. Is there a usb icon in your task bar by the time? I couldn't get pdanet to work until I was prompted to install drivers when I plugged in my phone.

Does anyone know how to force the pc to do that?

hmm when your in bootloader with adb open you can type "adb devices" (without quotes) if nothing is replied its a driver issue, although, i had the driver issue and never got the error you are getting, it just didnt do anything

if you open the windows icon thing on the bottom left of your pc, find the pdanet folder and choose "install legacy usb driver" then try it if it fails reboot your pc and try it again.
i have this same issue, even though i got my phone flashed, i still have to play with that driver every time until it decides to work.

I had to do those same steps over a few times too.

i also read somewhere that the newer 3.0(whatever) doesnt play nice with what were doing sometimes, i am going to try a legacy 2.(whatever) version to see if it works better, when i get a chance.
ill try and find that page if you want to try an older version bbiaf

Well thought I would come back and update. After messing with it for a while, taking a long break from it, and then coming back to it I got it to work. First try back in fact. Thanks for helping out guys.

Mine doesn't say android 1.0 driver in device manager but it does say android phone, samsung android adb interface. Hoepfully that is what it is supposed to say.

*** continued on with step 13 and I'm back to square one with the same problem I have been having all night long " the system cannot find the path specified". What am I doing wrong?

Here is a more clear set of directions:

1. Download and install Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Moblie_Phones_v1_4_6_0.
2. Connect phone to PC via USB.
3. Enable USB debugging.
4. Download and install Pdanet on both your computer and phone. Windows 32-bit or Windows 64-bit
5. Download and extract superboot folder, place it on C:/ and rename it to "root". Download Superboot
6. Power down phone.
7. Boot into bootloader(press and hole volume +/- simultaneously and power).
7a. On PC go to Start>Run and type "cmd" and hit enter.
7b. Type "cd.."(repeat until your at C:/)
7c. Type "cd root"
8. Type "fastboot-windows oem unlock" to unlockbootloader.
9. You'll receive warning about unlocking. Use volume + to highlight and power to confirm.
10. Click "install-superboot-windows.bat" that is in your "root" folder on C:/.
11. You should now have unlocked bootloader and root access.

Note: Phone will reboot and may take up to 5 minutes. If you get stuck at Google screen past 5 minutes
do a battery pull. After it's booted check for Superuser app and update(even if it says it's up to date).
Reboot after updating Superuser app.

Done.

HEHE....Galaxy Nexus was delivered at 3:30 via fedex...already unlocked, rooted, activated and upgrading as I type!!! THX all!!! Bye Bye D1
