HTC sued by Apple

this is also making apple look bad, since the technology they are suing for is so basic and broad most of the time that honestly it seems like anybody could come up with the idea. The only reason that apple is able to innovate so often is because their product range is very limited, so they do not have to distribute money to so many different divisions. Look at the massiveness of microsoft, and how many different things it makes and delvs into, now then do you really think that they had time to focus on innovation. It wasn't until they saw that they needed new stuff that they really started to hire and put money towards the research and development of innovative and revolutionary technology. Apple stole from Microsoft too you know.

If you read some of these patents, I am amazed they were accepted...

You shouldn't be surprised. The patent office pretty much accepts almost anything thrown at their desk.... most of it bogus. That's why there's such a movement for patent reform, and there may actually be a bipartisan bill out of congress soon. The current supreme court has also weighed in on the ridiculousness of the patents being granted. They are not amused.

This would be the best thing that could come from this.

Remember what happens when one company becomes too powerful? The government gets involved. I see what others here see.... a company shooting themselves in the foot. Trying to destroy the competition... be it legal or otherwise... results in only one thing. Its demise. Look at the track records.

^long ass message. it like appeared after i had posted mine. But no i gotta disagree with you a little bit there, mainly because something as simple as multi-touch would not be patentable, patents apply to technology, not to the ideas behind the technology, as well as products. Patents are made to fuel innovation, in this case it would be utterly ridiculous to sue every single company that uses mutli-touch mainly because its just too ridiculous. yeah but i doubt any of you watched my video but in it i said that motorola wouldn't be hit because they are the much older than apple in terms of phone making, and are sure to have more than 1 patent that apple has violated which they can use against apple. Apple knows this, and since HTC is younger and also one of the bigger Android phone manufacturers, they were a prime target. Google's flagship phone is also made by HTC, so if all HTC android phones are banned from being imported into the US, there goes Googles ship.

Think again, Apple was awarded the patent for a "Proximity Sensing Multi-touch display" back in January. They also own the patent for a multi-touch non-display input device (trackpad) and a direct multi-touch display. They aren't patenting the "idea", but the implementation. In other words, for a phone to have multi-touch it has to have a "multi-touch display" which Apple now owns the rights to and has the right to pursue any company (including Microsoft and the Surfaces devices they are trying to sell). They also CAN patent an "input method for computer interface" which is what "multi-touch" is.

I disagree. If anyone can come up with the idea, then why Nokia still have not come out with a phone to compete with iphone and Android. Most Asian phone makers has yet flood the market with a similar design. Look at RIM, I used to have one, their version of pre and post-iphone are so much different, and they are still no where near the iphone and android OS. Regards to Microsoft...hmmm they are loosing in every battle right now.

Just another hilarious waste of money from Steve Jobs. I see a settlement that will cost less than the amount of lawyers they have on tap, and a pissed off judge having to go through these ridiculous patents and having to listen to the Apple lawyers. Apple users are pretentious enough, I can't even imagine what a lawyer for Apple is like! :icon_eek:

Anyone remember when Apple stole iphone from Cisco? Bunch of hypocrites, jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus christ.

If the "pinch and zoom" is the issue couldn't Google call theirs , "touch and expand" ?
Different jester , pinch implies putting pressure on two fingers causing a tight grip between them .
Google's is lightly touch and then expand to enlarge .:motdroidhoriz:
I know the concept of the movement , not the jester . :-(

Or just call it multi touch, because touch to expand may cause issues; it will be tough to advertise "touch to expand" and not leave yourself open for someone to make wise remarks.

Unfortunately that's exactly what it says. Just because you "patent" the idea, doesn't mean it will hold up in a court of law. The problem is and everyone knows it, that the patent office has been so overwhelmed with patents that they have pretty much allows for the patent to go through, they don't have the manpower to check through all the patents to make sure they are legal, as long as you've filled out the form, here's your patent. (I know it's alittle more drawn out then that, but that's the summed up version)

As stated before in another thread on this matter, it's been stated by many legal experts that looked at the matter awhile back, that most of the patents that apple applied for are bogus and most likely will not hold up in a court. It's hard enough for a normal patent to hold up in court, let alone an IP patent. It's similar to me saying that i came up with the only way to walk through the door, and everyone else that does it the same way i do owes me 1 dollar. (Not the exact same way, but close enough) Nokia sued apple because of a technology they used in the iphone. And UNLIKE nokia, apple wants a complete injunction. If they wanted to be civil about it, they would just do what nokia did and want the money, apple doesn't, they want blood.
