HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

I spoke to a buddy of mine who is a manager for Verizon and he told me that the realease date for the thunderbolt was going to be the 17 of january.

That would be an awesome thing if it were true...but I think Verizon is pushing any and all LTE phones back to at least March, basically to make way for the Iphone....they don't want to mix the releases of the Iphone and LTE devices, they are never one to do that. But if it does come out on the 17th, put one on hold for me man!!

You know I was leaning towards the Bionic after CES, but since then, watching videos of both phones, and talking to people who know tech, I am thinking about going with the Thunderbolt. The Bionic looks great on paper, but I feel they have a ways to go before they really get the technology right for it to fully take advantage of the dual-core's abilities...I think I will wait till next year to see how it's evolving and turning out. The Thunderbolt is plenty fast enough for what I need it to do, a 1900 stock in the quadrant is no slouch, overclocked it should do even better. Plus I feel the 512MB of RAM in the bionic is not enough. I will wait it out for a dual-core when it gets 1Ghz of RAM, but I refuse to go on AT&T just to get the Atrix. I like Verizon and I am a patient guy, so I think HTC it will be...plus I love how my friends EVO feels and performs, having a better version of it is fine for me.

HTC Should have a duel core device before thanksgiving with the qualcomm 8660 chip in it and specs should blow the nvidia away also samsung will be outing there duel core chips later this year also!! nvidia will be at the bottom of the barrel before the end of the year!!

I don't think the qualcomm will blow Nvidia out, but they say Tegra 3 will be done this year. They may start using that. Something to think about.

I was initially really excited about the new LG phones too (Revolution, Black), they look like they have a lot of potential from the pics and vids, and the Black is gorgeous, until I found out that neither will have dual core processors (which sucks because I thought the Revolution was supposed to be Verizon's version of the Optimus 2X), the Black is on T-Mobile (not Verizon), and the Revolution will be "Binged." No thanks.

As far as the Jan 17 date, I don't see that happening, not 4 weeks before the iPhone release, and not on a Monday (Verizon typically releases phones on Thursdays). Verizon wants to maximize its iPhone sales (therefore, no more new phone releases until at least 3-5 weeks after it), and I doubt the TB is quite ready to be shipped out yet (actually mass quantities would have to be shipped out already if it were releasing in two days, and we would have heard something concrete by now if that were the case). That would be awesome if it were true though!

i hope he is right but look for the iphone to get about a 1 month head start on the 4g LTE again with the demand of the iphone!! It would not be smart to let out the 4g any sooner than march maybe really really late FEB! verizon wants alot of sales in the next couple months and they plan on the iphone bringing in a whole new crowd and new subscribers! they wont do anything to bring the iphone off the top even tho we all know better!!!!

As much as I would love for this to be the date, I agree with everyone else for late February and early March. Apple is very picky with their releases, unfortunately. And if I didn't think the release could be any further away, last night my Moto Rival (3rd model ive owned under warranties) just did the white screen, so now when I text, I can't see anything!

Initially I was extremely disappointed by the TB based on the super hype from HTC, I was solidly going with the Bionic but since both phones are no where to be seen, I took the time to really weigh what I am getting vs what was hyped.

I prefer HTC hardware, their record of OS updates, but most importantly the droid community does so much more with HTC hardware, like oh say Cyanogen. I actually don't care about Sense 2.0, glad its there but will be putting a custom ROM on hopefully GB based soon after and hopefully AOSP based..

I guess anything is possible, Verizon would decide to silently launch the HTC TB, in late February and then push a big announcement in March, but it just won't happen, Verizon had to give up some control to get the i*hone and lets face it they will delay anything to get more new customers.

Haha there's no way the TB is coming out TOMORROW. It's a Monday, and it didn't even go up for preorder yet... I suppose it's possible tomorrow starts the preorder thing... But isn't that done on a Thursday, too?

So i was talking to my friend earlier and he explained to me that when companies refer to quarters, its not the calendar year, its the fiscal year. Verizon's fiscal year ends at the end of september and begins in october. So Q1 ends in december and Q2 ends in march but begins in january. So the phone could come out either january february or march

When they're talking about release dates I believe it goes by actual quarters of the year, not fiscal quarters. All these phones coming out by March with the iPhone coming in February? Let's be real.

Why is it so unreal? Someone else in this thread made a fantastic point that it would be productive for verizon to let loose the 4g phones quickly after the iphone because the iphone will be cluttering up the 3g network.
