HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

HTC's CEO Peter Chou has a deal with Lowell McAdams which is he doesn't want the TB's release date to be "shadowed" by the release date of the iphone, meaning it won't be before, the idea of it coming on the 31st is bogus because of the 14 day return policy,
The XKXDISTURBEDXKX guy mentioned that he heard an htc rep talking with vzw reps about htc thunderbolt training which is now what's coming up, I went to my vzw store asking and talked to the manager (I have a good relationship with him) and asked him about the release date, he said late Febuary at the least and brought up the Lowell McAdams/Peter Chou thing and it really does make sense if you all think about it right?
Plus the commotion yesterday about the Comerica Theatre in Pheonix Arizona, it could maybe relate to the iphone or 4G however the iphone had its press conference so I think it would be about upcoming 4G devices, I'm NOT stating this as fact lol, just speculation:) but I think it all makes sense:)
Hope this helped

Here's the update about the meeting at the Comerica Theatre...
HTC reps said that the TB release date will coinside with the iphone. Their intentions are to release the phone on the same day because Verizon wants to see the competition between the two phones and how well each of them do. So with that being the case we're looking at a February 10th release date (Thursday).
Now, as for 4G and the pricing...they are still keeping plan pricing and info hush-hush with the employees also which is really frustrating everyone. They let everyone use and play with the TB's but didn't have them running on the 4G network that day. My friend told me he will keep pushing the issue with his boss to find out what the big deal is about keeping it all quiet. He'll tell me more when he finds out.
Not sure if you guys are interested in anything else, but if you are, let me know and I'll find out everything I can for you.
PS...The Thunderbolt is AMAZING...worth the wait...

if that information is true that's fantastic however i'll be on vacation from the 10th - 15th so i won't be able to look at the phone until the 16th :( i really want the thunderbolt but am afraid of 4g prices. if (and this is a big if) data has an unlimited option with the 4g network for the same price as it currently is for 3g (or at most 10.00 more) i'll go check out the phone and then will probably get it. i can always get the shell/holster combo and the silicone case same day as the phone then work on the extended battery once that's available.

One other thing to watch for prior to the T-bolt's release is the release of LTE Phone pricing plans. It's not likely that Verizon would use the same LTE pricing for it's Phones and the USM modems, so we'd still need to see those new plans at least a little bit in advance of the T-bolt's release.

I have a big question. Well my upgrade is tomorrow and I really want a new phone, now if the feb 10th date is correct than I am willing to get the thunderbolt. But if it is in later febuary or march I dont think that I can wait. What do you guys think that I should do? Is there any great advantages of the thunderbolt over the x beside the front facing camera and the 4g? Also the pricing of the 4g is a dealbreaker for me, what do you guys think?

How is the pricing a deal breaker for you? We don't even know the pricing yet lol. There's probably not that much difference except the things you mentioned, plus blur vs sense and hackability.

It's unfortunate that this phone has so much potential but Apple doesn't allow for any modifications besides using pics for home screen backgrounds and lock screen backgrounds. Sure, you can jailbreak to get more customization capabilities BUT even apple is cracking down on that...

Indeed, you are mostly correct. It's not that Verizon wont ALLOW data usage while on a call, its that with their current network, you can't. Verizon uses CDMA which isn't capable of that. Companies such as AT&T use GSM, which does. Another downside to CDMA vs GSM is that with a GSM phone, you can get international Sim cards to put in the phone so you aren't roaming. With (GSM) CDMA, the best you can get is a World Phone, which just allows you to roam on other networks.

A World Phone has dual radios. A CDMA and a GSM radio.
Any CDMA phone allows you to roam, you just pay out the nose to do it....

Thanks for the correction :) im no pro :P. So then you're essentially paying extra to use a gsm radio when the cdma is not available?

For the price I meant what the prices will be, I wish I knew the prices LOL. And I dont think I would hack the phone, so that doesnt effect my decision. My main question is how reliable is the feb 10th date, was that officially stated or did someone get it from speculation? I really want the thunderbolt but I do not think I can wait any longer than feb 10th.

Thanks for the info CH3RRY, that would be awesome if the iPhone and Thunderbolt were released to do battle on the same day! I really hope you're right, and keep us posted on any further info you hear from your source. I'd be interested to see who wins going at it head-to-head like that. For those of you with an upgrade now waiting to get a new phone soon, keep waiting, the Thunderbolt will truly be worth it over an X, Incredible, or Fascinate.

My guess for 4G/LTE pricing (and this is totally speculation) is that they will charge something like an extra $10 per month (like Sprint) if you are in an LTE-covered area currently and choose to get the sim card that will allow you to use the new network, and if you are not in an LTE-covered area yet you can keep your same unlimited 3G plan until your area gets it, and then you will have the option of upgrading to 4G/LTE and paying extra at that time or just keeping 3G and not getting the sim card. The other scenario, I think, is that there will be tiered-pricing with data-caps and overage charges, depending on usage.

Whatever the case may be, I highly doubt VZW would let people use the new 4G/LTE network without paying something extra over their previous unlimited 3G payments. The key thing is whether they let us choose whether we want to use it and pay for it, or not use it and not pay for it. If they force me to pay extra for 4G/LTE to get this phone and it does not come to my area for another year, I'm going to be very mad and so will many others who want this phone but don't need LTE or have it in their area yet.

But yeah, as soon as we hear something official or more concrete at least on pricing, we can expect the Thunderbolt to follow very shortly after.

CDMA is not widely used outside of America, so if you're traveling overseas, you will most likely need a GSM phone. If you're a Verizon customer, a world phone is your best bet (since it has a sim slot), though you can get a loaner GSM phone through them.

If you already have a GSM phone (say you're an AT&T customer) you can use your current phone and just swap out the sim card.

While it seemed very plausible the TB would not come out until March I have read many things including getting updated today on this thread. Verizon wouldn't be doing training 8 weeks out on the TB, no way everyone would forget what they learned. iPhone doesn't require training, there are no special apps other than the MiFi feature. In the last 24 hours everything has been pushing TB to the surface and it now appears the XOOM won't be far behind the TB.

It has also been stated that Best Buy will NOT get the Verizon iPhone but will get retail exclusive on the ThunderBolt. I am skeptical if that means no other retail or no Verizon retail which would now seem odd given the head to head competition they want to see.

Either way my DInc and 64GB 4G iPod Touch are going up for sale tomorrow to get the cash ready.
