Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

I just received my update today!!!! It just downloaded 15mins ago...:) so far it is GREAT!! So glad I found this forum and all the information I got from it about ics.If people would have patience and wait for it,which I know how hard it is,they would not drive Sam crazy about the great Hob he developed ,has instructions for, still explains it over and over and people don't read everything that needs to be done or does things they shouldn't.. imagine if it were you or me it would be nerve racking to us as well. Sam thank u for your hard work I am new here but I have been reading and keeping up with the threads here and I don't envy you....

The ones who did not receive ics yet I tried updating my phone about 4 x before a little bit ago and finally it happened!! It will be there I know I was going crazy myself. I'm in Philadelphia Pa so maybe it will come to some of you today. The install went well 10 mins maybe a little more but no problems as of yet.Good luck and hope it comes to all of you soon

Quick question. If the ICS OTA fails to install, does it have to be downloaded again and again until it installs, or can I find it somewhere on the phone after it's been downloaded and run it from there? Trying to change all settings to factory defaults that I changed with sqlite editor and see if it will install without unrooting. If that doesn't work, it'll be a night of trying to unroot using a mac.

Yes, you have to download it again and again. The install .zip is removed if the install fails. You can keep root (Voodoo OTA works) through the update but can't use forever root which causes the update to fail (modified /system/bin/mount_ext3.sh). If it fails look for a log file in /cache/recovery (need root to do this) and it will tell you what happened. The install does match md5 checksums of certain file to make sure they haven't been modified. This takes place about a third of the way into the update process.

Yes but they are the same file. And it causes lots of people confusion when they see people discussing "different versions". Then I get 100 pm's about "omgz ponies which is the 'right' file? I don't want to get the wrong one and be off the ota path or brick my phone." So understand where my frustration comes from. I have enough problems with people not wanting to wait for the update (which is now available for pull and why the server is overloaded) and rushing into the House without reading. When they f it up, and they usually do cause they're too impatient to bother following the steps, they just pm me with "it didn't work what do I do" as though I'm going to personally hand hold them through each step. I certainly don't need the added nonsense about which is the ota file. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

No hand holding? Oh come on, you love the attention!

When can we expect to see some Jelly Bean updates on HoB? <j/k>

Actually....I don't. The HoB was never meant to be what it's become today. I have far too many people thinking it's a one click solution to every problem they encounter with their bionic. Starting very soon support for the HoB will become non-existent. It will still exist, and will still be updated, but, I'm not dealing with all the user problems that occur from not reading and doing things properly. The OP and FAQ will be updated to represent the change in support. People will be free to use it, but, NOT free to expect support for screwing up their phone with it.

Just remember this: No good deed goes unpunished.

I've noticed.

I remember back in the stone age, when TV's actually could be repaired by replacing parts, I was once an electronics engineer. People would always ask me to fix their TV's. I did a couple of times, but when their TV died again, for a different reason, they tried to get me to fix it again "under warranty". Keep in mind that I probably didn't even charge them in the first place.

So, I told people that I would only fix TV's for women, and only if they got naked first. I always got lucky that way, meaning that I never had to fix another TV!

LOL. Well the new support model for HoB is that there isn't any. I will fix bugs that are caused by my code. I won't fix stupid. I've gathered enough data over the months so that I've built into the HoB solutions for all the common problems. The FAQ will spell out all the common scenarios and what option to use. If they fail to read, so be it. They'll fail to fix their phone when they brick it, as well. I've had too many people PM me to ask for help and then complain that it wasn't working after COMPLETELY ignoring what I said to do. How much time does THAT waste? It gets old real quick. I want to support our community, but, I don't want to be THE support for the community.

I can't blame you for feeling that way. Maybe at some point you'd consider a distributed suppoert scheme? There are many experienced helpful people on these boards which I'm sure will try and pick up the slack. Perhaps you'd be willing to be the oracle to those select few. And only when a few of them are stumped, if ever needed. It would keep your name alive and your good work going. You know, sort of like Jesus and his disciples :)
