If Galaxy Nexus is a bust what phone will you get?

Now that rezound is looking like its about to get s-off, that will be my second choice. Or maybe even first. Seems like its had fewer issues than g-nex already.
Though I may have an opportunity for a really cheap t-bolt off contract, which would allow me to wait for the next big thing.

what is s-off?

I'm not 100% sure since I have a Droid but I believe s-off is needed on some phones (HTC?) in order to flash custom roms and baseband (cellular radio) updates specifically needed for some roms/kernels

supercharged modified liquid 3.1 w/turbocharged 3g
Pete's 5 slot lv 1.25GHz w/ kickasskernel tweaks
19.9 linpack score
1856 quadrant score

If it's a bust then impatient people everywhere will be stuck with their perfectly capable, powerful, impressive devices with miniscule quirks.

Yes, it means you can flash unsigned kernels on HTC phones. Otherwise it's root only, ROMs but no kernels.
Kernel freedom is what makes hacking the phone worthwhile. You can then have performance tweaks, baseband tweaks, radios from other devices, and most importantly updates without needing to wait for carrier OTAs.

i know gnexus has it, i wasnt aware rezound had it as well. rezounds my second choice then :D

You'll need a belt for the Rezound, I read that sucker is heavy. It's like having a Mini Cooper in your pocket but this will be my second choice as well. I need an unlocked bootloader because I see no reason in hacking a phone that you can't make perform better using custom kernels.

exactly, and without an unlocked bootloader, sbf files couldnt be used. that highly increases the chances of having a permanently bricked phone. if my d1 did not have an unlocked bootloader, it probably would have been bricked by now (i think there was one time where i needed it, cant remember)

ya i'd go rezound for the unlocked bootloader. 1st time i tried rooting my d1 i had to sbf it because i messed up. Just necessary for me. Don't see how gnex can be a bust though.

The Rezound's weight actually felt pretty good in my hand when I tested it out, this was without the extended battery of course. I imagine the extended battery nearly doubles the weight.

I don't think you need an unlocked bootloader for SBF files as the Bionic has a locked bootloader and can use them(FXZ). I think all that is required is recovery and bootstrap. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i think you do because in order to flash an sbf on my d1 i have to get into the bootloader first.

and either way, kernels are hugeeee. they can make my phone faster and save battery. Thats almost all the benefits i want from rooting :D

Hmmm, you're right on that one. Bootstrap must be the part of the bootloader you need to access to flash SBF/FXZ files. Makes sense now.
